••• 2026 Official Chicago Cubs Thread •••

17-9 over the past 30 days. I’d take that 6 times. This team really only has one opponent. Itself. We’re gonna beat good teams and lose to bad ones that’s based.
That's what sucks about following this team right now is we have seen what their top end looks like and it looks like a World Series contender and we have also seen the bottom end which looks like a team that has no identity. The injury bug has definitely played a factor with the pitching staff too but there was a stretch when the pitching was not the problem the offense was. There is talent on the roster but it's anyone's guess when it will show up on a given day. If they are healthy and firing on all cylinders its a fun team to watch.

I will say that I am glad we locked up PCA with an extension. This kid just has a drive to be elite at everything. The defense was always elite but there was a time even you wondered if he needed a reset in AAA this year when he was swinging at everything. It's easy to forget he's only 24 years old. He's shown us through his journey that he will make adjustments and he has really been on a historic heater lately with his bat. I love having a guy with his energy leading off as he sets the tone when he is at his best.

Team batting vs MLB pitching will always be somewhat streaky. Consistent high end pitching is what wins championships. I don't believe the Cubs do not have the kind of pitching that can overcome a stretch of cold bats.

Focus at the deadline should be all on arms. I agree as currently constructed it's hard to see current team as a contender but if front office has really good deadline we could become one.

I’m starting to wonder if 2027 looks like.
LF Ramirez ( utl inf)
RF Shaw
DH Suzuki ( 4th OF)
Ballestareos off the bench

If it is you can break the bank on pitching even though we hopefully have Horton. Brown. Steele back. Rea #6 Assad #7. Wiggins at Iowa and you can go nuts on those two open rotation spots.

If I’m a guy like Alcantara or Ramirez, it would be hard to see guys making 30-50 times more than you eating up playing time and blocking your path towards breaking out.

Orioles OF must not have done a very good job looking at the scouting report of Amaya’s speed. Bizarre he scored twice without a throw

Either sit him against LHP or drop the switch "hitting" fantasy.

As a RHB against LHP his slash is .165/.243/.320 for an OPS of .563
He's obviously struggled from the right side this year.

I think calling his switch hitting a fantasy is a little harsh as he's been average the last few years from the right side. I'd be fine with a little more of a platoon but the idea (I know, not yours) that he should be straight up benched for Alcantara is laughable.

I just want the Cubs to move on from Happ this winter. Thanks for the years, go get a check elsewhere. Same thing with Suzuki, Shota and Taillon. Ride it out with these guys for 26, we're not getting past the Brewers and/or Dodgers anyway.

That’s why I think the Cubs have to see what they have with Ramirez and Alcantara.

I hope we keep Suzuki. Wouldn’t mind Boyd on a shorter deal if he stays healthy and continues with the way he looked last night.

I am torn on keeping Happ & Suzuki. When they are on, solid players. But their slumps are too frequent. Maybe they need to consult Mark Grace on finding a good slump buster.

In the end both guys have value, but probably not at $20M+ and only if the roster around them allows them to bat 6/7/8.

I've seen people suggest playing Shaw and/or Ramirez in the corner OF spots. A problem with that lineup is neither has shown much slug. The offset would be a DH with solid slug, but the Cubs struggle there as well.
