Huge news. I assume there's precedent for this?

This is the problem. There is no precedent for this in the WC itself. It has happened in qualifiers and other tournaments, but never before in the WC from my understanding.

While I am happy that he can play, it certainly doesn’t pass the smell test when considering the history of FIFA’s corrupt reputation. And it isn’t about right or wrong on the call. It’s about what caused them to take this time to review the red card. There certainly has been other opportunities to review questionable application of cards through the history of the tournament.

IMO this doesn't happen for anyone else other than a Messi or Mbappe, sometimes being corrupt AF works in your favor.

Huge news though, we look very different without Balogun up top.

So has Norway been playing the soccer version of the old North Carolina 4 corners offense for most of this game? Sort of seems that way to me a soccer know nothing person.

Correct, Norway basically plays soccer I hate, it’s like 90% long balls. But I love Haaland so much it’s still interesting to me.

Kind of looked to me like Brazil defenders wanted nothing to do with Haaland. Especially the second one, four men had him bracketed but none closed on him to prevent that strike.

FIFA already set the precedent with Ronaldo for this very WC. He should have been suspended for the first two WC group games but had his red card ban suspended.

FIFA is as corrupt as it gets and they are just following their own corrupt process lol just so happens to work on the US favor this time

Has this happened with other key players on red cards in previous World Cups and/or big tournaments? I don't really pay attention outside of the USMNT.
It has happened in qualification matches but no tournament I am aware of.

It is super weird. I feel like it was a bad card but this is a bad precedent for a lb organization trying to combat an image of corruption.

Styles make fights, especially in tournaments like this where body types vary based on region and historical breeding. Norway was a lot bigger than Brazil and Brazil let them play to their strengths. When you have a size disadvantage, you have to make up for it with speed and pressure the ball before it can be served up to the box.

Qualifiers aren’t the same. This is FIFA acknowledging that their WC refs messed up. I believe it was EUFA refs that gave the red card that was rescinded.

Thanks for verifying that, Haaland and their goalie played really well today. Norway deserved the W in my opinion.

This is kind of where I am. Based on precedent, it seems a bit odd, but the card itself felt like a reach. Yes, he could have severely injured him, but nothing he did was out of control or creating a dangerous situation or had intent. It was very bad luck that his foot landed as it did.

I am glad with the result, but not happy that the US is now under a microscope.

Did he kick his head? I don’t know soccer well enough I guess but that seems to me like a play dangerous enough for red card consideration
