2026 investments

I agree. The absolute starting point is what is my nest egg amount? Then, what do I want/need to live on. Finally, do u care about growing the nest egg for kids' inheritance, or do u want your last check to bounce?

Each of these questions needs to be answered and there is a separate decision tree for each answer. That is, there is not a single answer.

That made me LOL, thanks.

And agree, EVERYBODY has different needs, start points, and goals. Thats why its so hard to give blanket advice, but I suppose that's why we all like talking about it so much. Adds a lot of interest and flavor.

Anyone else buying SpaceX today? I signed up for a few shares via schwab. I affirmed the shares last night, but still waiting to see if my order gets allocated. It sounds like only 20% are going to get allocated, which is disappointing.

I am, but only a handful of shares as well.

Not me. I’m waiting at least a quarter, likely 6 months, before I get into that.

Weird how each of my brockerages is handling this different:

Fidelity- Customers may receive fewer shares than they requested or, in some cases, no shares at all. Any customer who purchases shares in the SpaceX IPO will be subject to a 15-day flipping policy. Customers that sell shares acquired as part of the IPO within the first 15 days of the shares trading in the secondary market will be prohibited from participating in future new issue equity offerings for a defined period of time.

Schwab says nothing about a flipping policy.

I bought some NASA which owns, or is being allocated, a chunk of SpaceX instead of trying the direct route.

Just curious, with those of you buying shares in SpaceX, what is drawing you to buy into the IPO?

Elon hype! It's bizarre but real. Look at Tesla's valuation.

That's what I assumed, because the fundamentals of SpaceX from what I've seen are horrible.

I was thinking that Musk was having trouble getting buyers of his IPO since he wanted it to be listed in the S&P Index as a way to force index funds to buy shares.

This is where I’m at. It has no net revenue, so a PE ratio can’t even be constructed. The PS ratio is around 100. This from a company IPOing at a valuation of $1.7 trillion. They will have to grow 60 times to justify that valuation.

The hype is real, and I’m guessing it will do OK early, but I’m also guessing the rug’s going to get pulled, and pulled hard, at some point. We’ll see, I guess.

Will say, I'm cautiously optimistic about the speed of our space dreams. Its kind of cool to see it unfold. I have some RocketLab and have enjoyed watching their story as well. Hopefully SpaceX can really propel the whole thing forward.

I read too many message boards on how Tesla was bankrupt and never going to succeed, and missed out on buying it at $17. If I would have spent $5k on Tesla stock, it would be worth $176,000 today.

Lately with my investing (play money), I've been using the reverse reddit/message board strategy, which has worked out pretty well so far.

Reddit gets caught up in the politics of it all I think. I am excited about the tech and opportunity. NASA research alone over the years has brought mankind some useful tools and such for daily lives. I hope these other companies do the same as we push forward.
