Texas Tech 10 Million Dollar Portal Season

My interest in college sports was already diminishing. As I get older (family) I don’t have the same amount of time to devote to sports on Saturday. I’ll try to catch ISU games as much as possible but even that’s taking a backseat to my growing list of responsibilities. These issues that pop up that show the NCAA is nothing / do nothing just cement my current level of care.

I mean it’s our conference but still. Wtf isn’t against the rules anymore?

It's not the NCAA's fault. They have rules in place. The Courts aren't allowing the NCAA to enforce their rules.

If coaches had any balls they would tell someone like Sorsby "You gambled and broke the rules, so you are done". But it's win at all costs.

I guess I should start suing all the racing organizations I race under when I don't like a rules they have in place.
Where the presidents of the universities?

This is setting a dangerous precident if Sorsby is allowed to play after all this. What's the point in having gambling rules if they can't be enforced? I'm worried about the integrity of the game going forward too as this is going to make some think they are invincible to being held accountable for point shaving schemes too if you can get away with betting on your own team. I don't care that he didn't play in the games he bet, he still has insider knowledge of what is going on within the program that your average better does not.

May as well put Pete Rose in the MLB hall of fame now if this is how courts will be ruling on gambling.

Yeah, this feels like the courts are basically striking down all gambling restrictions. Because even if the NCAA eventually wins this case (and I think they will), it’ll be after the season. So the rule will be that you can bet on your own team as long as you don’t get caught until you’re a junior or senior

Another thing to factor in, how can teammates of anyone that has bet on their own team look that player in the face in the locker room and wonder if that player really is playing for your team and not themself? Every bad game or play in the back of your mind you now have to wonder if it truly was just a bad play or game or if they had something else riding on the game.

This ruling just makes me sick. College athletics are quickly becoming less pure by the day with everything that is broke with the system now. We already went through this ourselves with the big gambling mess in our own program a few years back and I was fully onboard with holding those guys accountable for knowingly breaking the rules. Now if you are those players that had eligibility taken away if Sorsby does indeed take the field this year you gotta be pissed how the rules are not being fairly enforced.

The NCAA was just waiting to be gutted. Without anti-trust protections, courts will invalidate nearly all of their rules and decrees when challenged.

"Judge Ken Curry ruled that Sorsby's attorneys demonstrated he will suffer a 'probable, imminent and irreparable injury' if he's unable to play for the Red Raiders in 2026"

I will suffer a 'probable, imminent, and irreparable injury' if I don't win the Powerball this week. Will Judge Ken Curry give me millions of dollars since I won't win?

That's the thing too. These schools chose to join the NCAA. There is another option, NAIA. There are different membership levels as well.

It is almost as if only one side has to honor the contract, which makes the whole thing null and void.

This stuff is beyond idiotic.
