Completely agree. One of those years. At least I don’t have to pay $30 to fill the gas can up too much.
Good. My upper pond is overflowing from all the rain this spring. Which is crazy because it was 1.5' low at this time last year
You need subsoil moisture for them to reach, rain fall never came close to recharging soil profile.
Yep, and we’ve had plenty of great crops through droughts in 2021-23. There’s also no ponds in fields like there were the last 2 years which quickly reduces yield. Also less moisture usually seems to result in less disease.
We are good in north Iowa. Just a little light on moisture and with the heavy ground, the moisture is there.
There's plenty of moisture down there right now to handle some dry weather and let the roots chase. We will need rain in July and August to finish the crop but that is the case no matter how deep your roots go. We have proven a few times over the last 5 years that the timing of precipitation is far more important than the quantity of precipitation with how efficient modern genetics have become with water.
We were sitting at a little kids softball game last night in Jewell, watching our grand daughter play and I mentioned to my wife and daughter that we may have to throw a bottle of sun screen in the car. They started in how they much preferred to be cold then hot like last night. I just sat there and finally said " two weeks ago you both were wearing winter jackets, gloves and wrapped up in a blanket, complaining about how cold it was, and now you prefer that over a little heat?" Nope, sorry, I will always take a night like last night then freezing like we were a couple weeks ago.
It should always be between 68 and 72, day and night. Well, night could get down to 65 or so and still be acceptable.
I agree, but if that was the case the State of Iowa population would be much bigger I suspect.
Ditto for up north here in the Land of Lakes. Has not rained in Twin Cities in 10 days and only 1.87" for the month.
That is fair but still likely under average especially as you add in the last couple of weeks.
At my house in Marion I got 8.32 in April and 1.76 in May.
I’ll bet I’m close to that too. With most of it the first 3 weeks in April.
