Milan Momcilovic withdraws from the 2026 NBA Draft

There are Cyclone legends that played only one or two seasons after transferring in, went early to the draft, etc.

This idea that players were carved in stone to be at a school for four years and love every second of it is a fantasy.

I get that, but didn't mean we have to be happy about it, or settle for this dumbed-down version of basketball. I'll cheer for whatever team shows up each year, but this isn't as enjoyable as it used to be or could be again.

In the grand scheme of things, he won't be remembered as a Cyclone by anyone. But you can't hate him for chasing the money
I can't agree with this at all, he's arguably the best 3 point shooter in Iowa State history and was part of two Sweet 16 teams a big part of the second one. He played 3 seasons at Iowa State, it's not like he was a one and done here.
I think this is just some folks being bitter saying stuff like this.

As a New York guy I hope he goes to St. John's. I've always had a soft spot for the Johnnies with them being a local team.

Actually I see that Yessoufou committed to St. John's, big get for them, so looks like they'll be out on Milan. Kentucky it is then probably.

But being bitter is why he won’t be remembered as a cyclone. You are remembered for the team you last played for. Fair or not, that’s just how it is.

I’m not sure why some people are taking his decision personally. Once he announced his intentions to explore the draft, he was never coming back to Iowa State. That was a decision made by the Iowa State staff.

Milan went through the draft process, waiting as long as he could, and made a decision that was best for him personally. Each side made their own decisions that aligned with their own needs.

Good luck to Milan next year and hope he gets to fulfill his dream of playing in the NBA

But he would have played most of his college career as a Cyclone and as arguably their best shooter ever on teams that advanced in the tournament. I'd be shocked if he's forgotten over time.

Were people happy about Seneca Wallace's two year stint? Fred's teams?

People weren't happy that Fred's transfers had to sit out a year.

Well, now they don't have to sit out a year.

This is what we get and even without NIL being what it's become, the blue bloods/big names would largely win out as they always have.

He’ll be remembered as a part of this team as the team is honored. But it won’t be as an individual like Tamin. Maybe that changes as 4 year guys like Tamin become extinct, but for now that’s how I feel.

Lipsey is on another level, he's arguably the greatest Cyclone of all time or at least the most beloved. That doesn't that Milan won't be remembered as a Cyclone unless you're talking in terms of lifetime Cyclone but that's such rarefied air.

So what’s the draw for watching CFB and CBB over the NFL and NBA? If they are all running a pure business model now, with the pro leagues being much more organized, what’s the draw for college athletics? These players have no real affiliation with the school now. If they are taking classes, most are virtual anyways. The cost of attending games isn’t that different anymore.

So if college doesn’t have what made it special as you got to see players come in as freshmen and see their growth, why not just go watch actual professional sports?
None

And they'll find out the hard way.

In five years, I'll ask you about the top players from this year, once Milan is at Kentucky. You will remember Tamin, JJeff, and Nate.
I very much remember Tyrese Hunter having a great freshmen season, and having an amazing game to carry Iowa St to a first round upset of LSU in '22, on its way to a sweet sixteen. That was fun.

Recruits will know where he was developed. That's really the most important.

Only way he's not, is if the team he goes to wins the championship and he is MVP of the tournament or something like that.

If Milan is smart (and I think he is) he can maintain a ton of goodwill with the ISU fanbase if he's careful with his words next year and doesn't pull a Campbell and say something unnecessarily stupid.

I love the people trying to say Milan is a decent defender.

He’s 6’8” and one of the best shooters on the planet trying to get into a league that values shooting.

I know CF has a lot of experts that claim the NBA plays no defense. When games are actually in doubt, particularly in the playoffs, the defense is insane. But these are also professionals that play 82 game seasons and know when a game is over. In a blowout, dudes don’t play much defense.

There aren’t many wings in the league I can think of that aren’t better defenders than Milan. He gives effort but he is going to be one of the slowest wings in the NBA, and he isn’t very physical.

He’ll make it in the league and stick. He’s a great shooter and will become a well rounded scorer. But he’s going to be a guy teams attack. And that’s OK.

His 7 threes was arguably one of the best NCAA tourney performances in ISU history.

Heck that may have been the peak of his career.

He’ll be very much like Niang in the league. There forever, and will get some minutes during the season. But unless he gets better at defense, he cannot play real playoff minutes. If only there was a college coach that could teach defense?
