Star Wars Expanded Universe Thread

Which did they cancel? Some of the recent ones sucked and should have been. Are you talking about projects they had coming?

I think shows like The Acolyte and Skeleton Crew weren’t great but really could have found their footing in a second season, and they had moments that were really good. They just bailed on them both and I think negative online chatter specifically about the Acolyte really buried it.

Edit: I think both of those were better than Ahsoka, which is probably only surviving due to Filoni’s stake in it.

For the record just finished season 5 episode 9 of the clone wars last night. My 9 year old is on a huge general greivous kick and we are having a ball.

Apparently Disney does, as they keep canceling shows and they tried to cater to online lunatics and put out a piece of total crap in the rise of skywalker.
It's not just Star Wars fans. Lots of people outside the fandom hate on Star Wars and now you have the whole anti-woke crowd that despises Disney and bombs anything if a female or minority is given any kind of prominent role in a movie. I think a lot of fans are like me and others on this board that don't expect a groundbreaking effort any time a Star Wars product is delivered, but having a Star Wars movie be just OK is not acceptable to many anymore. It will be seen as a flop even though it is going to make millions of dollars.

Skeleton Crew is coming back though, isnt it?

Nope, cancelled. Well I should say not officially but it ain’t coming back.
Does it really need to come back though? Seemed like a self-contained story maybe with the potential for some characters to appear in the future projects.

Im not sure there are a ton who fit that distinctly. Rogue One was all about Jyn Erso and it was highly praised. Probably one of the best star wars films ever. I'd think a large chunk of Acolyte haters probably loved Rogue One. Not saying there aren't turds who think the way you described, but I have a hard time believing that they are large in numbers and tanked Acolyte's hopes. It just wasnt good as a whole, some cool moments, but not a complete show. So many cringey moments. Personally I think a better writer/director would have done more with the material in a smart way.

Acolyte suffered from poor writing and direction 100% there was some good to the show too

The Acolyte was a flawed concept - the night sisters stuff just didn’t work at all, and the main character wasn’t great. The night sisters storyline was done though.

But the Manny Jacinto/Qimir character was great, the Master Sol stuff was great, Jecki was really good, the foundation for a very good season was there.

Saying they hate anything with female or minorities in a prominent role is hyperbolic on my part. Though there are definitely those that are quick to judge based solely on that criteria and there are people who cater to that crowd. Young male incels have some serious issues and they are very active when it comes to Disney, Star Wars, and Marvel stuff.

Oh for sure. I just think the internet loudmouths arent as numbered as we think. Hopefully not anyway!

I thought mando was really good! It probably lacked a little bit of tension and consequences just because they weren’t saving the galaxy or anything. Marvel ran into the same thing once Endgame was over. After you watch them fight over the fate of the universe, it's kinda tough to watch Spiderman battle Vulture or Thor battle whoever Christian Bale was playing. This was more personal stakes than universal, and that's OK.

[SPOILERS]
First off, my complaints: I thought that the 3rd act dragged a little bit and they could have cut 10 minutes out. I didn't care too much for using Jeremy Allen White's voice for Rotta...the other Hutts had the usual low booming Hutt voice and Rotta sounded the same as the character from The Bear or the Springsteen biopic. I thought that they should have altered his voice some. Guess it just took some getting used to. My only other complaint was that the Twins had an army of droids. That's fine I guess, but why not throw in some Gamorian guards or those prune face guys from Jabba's skiff? Also, some of those droids had the same round hat as the bounty hunter that brought Mando there and that was a little confusing. I do think that they underused Zeb some. He should have had more scenes.

Other than those, I thought it was a fun movie. There was a car chase, a dogfight, a gladiator style battle, and Mando with a ton of hand-to-hand fighting with multiple aliens/monsters/stormtroopers. We got to see the Hutts actually move. I've always been a big Sigourney Weaver fan ever since Aliens and it was cool to see her piloting an X-Wing. They probably went a little overboard with some of the Grogu scenes, but that's fine. Overall, it was a fun movie to watch given I didn't have a lot of expectations. Worth going to for any SW fan.

I agree with that. They had some really good characters and the lightsaber fights were great. The main character was the issue. First off, she wasn’t very good, second there didn’t need to be twins. The lesbian witches didn’t help. But the final straw for me was the created by the force thing. I didn’t care for it when they did that with anakin, but it was whatever. Now they try to do the same thing 1000 years prior? I mean, that is semi blasphemous to SW fans.

Went and saw M&G this afternoon. $15 for a ticket, large popcorn, and large coke zero. Just the perfect amount to watch that movie in the theater. I enjoyed it, but it felt like I was watching the show and not a theatrical movie. Still had fun.

Saw M&G on Sunday. I enjoyed it for the most part. Did have the same thoughts as many that it felt like 2 episodes back-to-back. Being a fan of SW:Rebels and Steve Blum, it was really cool to see Zeb get some legit live action screen time.

Sounds like that won’t be the last we see of Zeb as well

For what it has become. This was inevitable when Disney bought the rights. Children that grew up on Star Wars needed the franchise to grow with them. Instead, we got a franchise that shifted to cater to children because that’s what sells merch at the Disney parks.

Yes, we got a great movie and show in Andor and Rogue One. But we needed more of that and less of Grogu. They had a great opportunity for another adult level hit when they brought Thrawn to the screen, but they haven’t followed up on that at all. They should have just made Timothy Zahn’s Thrawn trilogy into a movie trilogy and just cashed the checks at the box office.
Grogu was the best part of the movie.
And Star Wars has always been for kids.

Yes the backlash to the last Jedi ruined the franchise I feel like. It made decision makers scared to do anything. FWIW I think the movie was the best of the sequel trilogy but I know I’m in the minority.
The Last Jedi is easily the most audacious of the sequels, and they completely squandered it with the cowardly Rise of Skywalker.

I agree with this for the most part. It was fun...which is fine. And yeah...the tension just isn't there when the Empire is in disarray and the "bad" guys are just bad guys...not guys attempting to rule the galaxy. That said...I have always disliked the "urban" parts of the Star Wars franchise. I don't want anything to resemble NYC or LA in Star Wars! I am sure that is just a pet peeve of mine but I want Star Wars to "look" far far away! Not as if Mando finds himself fighting a battle underneath the L in Chicago! Thought for a moment he was going to stop for a slice of pizza. But...overall it was a fun movie...but not one of the best in the Star Wars lore.

The Last Jedi had parts to it that seem like they were just thrown in there just to kill time! Finn going to the casino to pick up a bit character that out of the blue sells him out...that entire part of the film was a waste of time! Sure...killing Luke off was bold...but that movie was boring! Especially the big battle at the end. The Luke part of the battle was cool...but that was it...
