••• 2026 Official Chicago Cubs Thread •••

Not that his outing mattered tonight but how much longer is Maton going to be a Cub? Dude just can't be trusted in anything but mop up duty so far.

Offense really struggling lately. During this skid since May 9 other than the extra innings game with the Sox they've scored 3 or less runs in all the losses and 4 of them were shutouts.

Happ and Suzuki are both about .140 with RISP, so that's your 3,4 hitters. That's just isn't going to get it done. Impossible to win over the long term doing that. Happ it's what I expect, that prob won't get any better, but Suzuki really needs a few clutch hits. When you lead off man leads the team in RBIs it's not a great thing.

Happ is so Jekyll and Hyde. When he is hot he is HOT but he has way more cold streaks than hot streaks. He's not a guy you bat in the 3-5 spots he's more of a 6 hole hitter on a good team. Suzuki had a great season last year and looked the part of a 3-5 hole hitter. Not sure what is up with him this year but needs to get it going. Maybe being a primary DH last year until Tucker got hurt helped keep him fresh to have a good year with the bat?

Just so frustrating how this team for so long struggles to hit with RISP too. That's not the problem tonight when you get just 2 hits. I've said it for years now, Hoerner is the most complete player on this roster and I am glad we were able to extend him as he may have gotten a better deal had he hit free agency. Dude just gets it, not only a gold glove in the field but knows how to put the ball in play and make things happen with the bat. Bregman has a lot of that too and hoping some of that leadership rubs off on the younger players on the team.

I will say Carson Kelly has far exceeded expectations as the Cubs are getting the best years of his career for a pretty good bargain.

If Mo doesn't get things going again soon I would not be against sending him down to Iowa for a bit and giving Alcantara a look too. Especially with PCA struggling lately he could give him a day off once in awhile in CF. Hopefully stick Ramirez in at DH right away and see if he can be a sparkplug and with Shaw going to the IL he also is able to fill in at 3B and 2B if you need to give Nico or Bregman a day too.

Take him OUT. The two week hot streak never makes up for the horrid stretches of nothing of any importance at the plate.

I can't find the exact stat, but his SO rate is around 50% over the past 2 weeks. Maybe it's time for Happ to have a 'sore knee' or something and give Alcantara a try. Platoon with Conforto in LF for a bit.

Think I heard this morning on the radio 22 out of his last 37 at bats have been K's.

the announcers just said counsel is not concerned about Happ or Suzuki hitting because the outs are just a happening not necessary due to runners being on. I mean what kind of thinking is that.

Probably move Happ to leadoff. Lol
I would unsarcastically prefer that over him in the 3/4 hole. I’m not a fan of the guy but he does typically get on base at a decent rate. He is just an inning killer when he gets up with guys on.
