Fran vs Media

Whole family is piect of work. Is CC still part of that family? Tells you all you need to know about her, too.

Yep, and it sure seems like she's taking their side over the UofI since she wouldn't even post about their historic March madness run.

Campbell was nowhere near the McCafferys’ level, but he could absolutely be thin skinned at times. Think a lot of coaches are to some degree.

Having a beef with Bruns honestly irritated me given Ben is a program alum. I enjoy his Sunday pods during the season for the even-handed analysis, and never felt like he’s taking shots at the program.
Bruns was one of the best to listen to, knew his stuff. Just listening to the Murph and Andy stuff for a while there and I found it quite boring, they skirted around the Fran issue still even though he is gone. Just not a random about nothing podcast guy, I guess.

There's very little upside for them by doing that, and a lot of downside in the form of denied access and fans being irritated at them
I don't know. What's the saw about getting in an argument with the guy who buys paper by the ton and ink by the barrel? I think a smart media outlet could turn that into a knife twisting exercise pretty easy. Esp with someone as reactive as the McCafes - they would take every ounce of bait and dig their own graves.

I don't think that would look very professional, and that's certainly not the kind of thing that Murphy would get into.

Honestly for this to get out now, no one looks good in this situation. I get that this speaks to pettiness of of the McCaffreys. Well established and 0 surprise. Seems like a cheap shot to pile on by Iowa Everywhere, well after the fact. Move on.

The real story isn't Fran's wife giving fans the finger as she walked by. The real story is Dochterman, Hassel, Murphy, Fales, and everyone else covering Iowa not having the balls to report it when it happened.
I agree and that has been that way since media was shamed by Fry in a repeated basis.

Could you imagine an ISU coach not doing interviews with John Sears for calling us CyClowns all the time.

I’m dating myself, but back in the early 80’s what is now KGAN had a clever new sports guy. Kind of funny. Maybe a bit like Murphy. Anyway, back then sports guys would give commentary/opinion pieces once a month or so at the end of their sportscast.

Apparently being new, he wasn’t aware and was critical of Hayden. Maybe running up the score on someone. Subsequent to say, I believe they cold shouldered him and he was out shortly after taking the gig. That was right when Iowa had the power and Hayden was afraid to flex it.

Howard James. After a game against Indiana then Hoosiers coach Sam Wyche accused Fry of running up the score by having the 3rd team Q.B. throw a t.d. pass late in the game that Iowa was handily ahead. On his sportscast that weekend James agreed with Wyche. At the next Iowa football press conference Fry went into one of his "woe is us" attitude mode. And all the time during the press conference Fry wouldn't take his eyes off of James. James was let go soon after.

Yes, the head sports guy was Howard James. I can't remember if it was WMT at the time or KGAN, but it was Channel 2 Sports. I think Channel 2 was known as the "Home of the Hawks" at that time. James was gone not too long after that.

I mean, we're kind of living in a glass house on this one. Remember how the Prohm regime acted when CW mildly insinuated that the team might be struggling? Or how about when the Tom Manning firing leaked out of CF Premium and the Campbell staff stopped talking to anyone? CW, Blum, hell - no one in the ISU mediasphere is ever very critical, and I highly doubt it's because they can't see what's happening. They can't do their job without some access to these entities, and it's pretty obvious that fully objective, scathing commentary results in a denial of said access.

IMO it's easy to call journalists weak for kowtowing to get access, but IMO this McCaffery anecdote completely validates their behavior from a professional standpoint.
