If you’re considering throwing out a place like 5 guys, I’d say almost all pizza places need to go. Except for maybe Sbarro type places.

IMO there are only two pizza chains that fall into fast food. Because they don't have any place to sit down in their locations, and you can walk in and buy pizzas and not wait at all. Walk in, walk out with food in 10 seconds.

Howard Johnson's! I just watched a video that said 60 years ago, HoJo was bigger than McDonald's, Burger King and KFC, combined.
Never mind, last one closed in 2022.

Along with HoJos anyone else remember Sambo's it was a chain sort of like Dennys or HoJo. Definitely had a old time racist them going on. Food was good though,from what I remember I was young though.

This was always something I thought about and we will have a pizza bracket down the line too.

I lean towards keeping sub places and eliminating pizza places for this bracket but would love public input.

Maybe make poll whether pizza qualifies and public vote will stand.

Yeah, I remember Sambo's. According to internet, the last Sambo's just changed name in 2020. At their peak, they had over 1100 restaurants. It started in CA and name was from owners (Sam and Bohnet & story). I believe they were known for pancakes (imagine that).

Yes Portillo’s Italian beef is top tier fast food. I’ve only been to the Davenport location and always gone inside to eat but they do have a drive-thru.

Is Maid-rite on the list yet?

Being someone that lives out of state now, my personal Iowa favorites fast food final-four that I miss being able to go to would be A&W (not Iowa specific, but many good memories), Maid-rite, B-bops, and tasty tacos.

For a retired guy in West DesMoines, at lunchtime it’s about 50-50 of local vs chains. If you’re looking for a good MaidRite, check out Donna’s in Valley Junction. They only take cash. Smart. Tacos? Tasty Tacos out by Texas Outhouse. Good solid tacos. Burgers? I’ll take Shake and Steak. Sandwiches? Jersey Mikes, #13 on rosemary parm bread. B-Bops is a good burger as well.
