PETERSON: Gambling headlines aren’t what nationally irrelevant Big 12 football needs

I didn’t read the article, but I likely don’t have an issue with his opinion. My issue is with the over sensationalized headline. I don’t think it was necessary on a site like CF. Nationally Irrelevant is unnecessary and debatable. Unless you are the media.
There’s already enough clickbait & rage bait floating around that I really don’t want to see CF go down that road, even if it’s a one off.
Not my site though (shrugs).

"Our writers"? 1-8 in CFP games is a media creation?

Irrelevancy is created on the field. Or, do you believe 1-8 is worthy of another interpretation?
Sure the record does matter but.....Is it irrelevant that Michigan was caught cheating multiple times during the Harbaugh Natty run, is it irrelevant there are probably plenty of kids gambling on sports in the B10 and SEC too. Is it irrelevant that TV money flows to the conferences who are winning Natty's. I do not and will not consider the Cyclones irrelevant. That's what pisses me off about this whole system that is going on right now. It's freak'n insane to not think we have to be 10x better at something just to "be relevant"

I have no "blanket dislike" for what Randy has produced over the years.

In this case, I'm not sure I can grasp his point. Tech is trying to $pend its way into contention, a key player might be sidelined, so its potential to win a CFP is kaput and it clouds the entire perception of the Big12, because apparently there's no chance any other program might be able to make a breakthrough. Or, Tech might be fine anyway and still advance a long way. We don't know yet.

The scattered-ness of what I wrote above demonstrates how confused I am about what he's attempting to convey.

IMO the issue is the false belief that that winning more CFP games would even matter. The reason the SEC and Big 10 are ahead of us in revenue is because they have the schools with by far the biggest fanbases, that is really all that matters. The commissioners of the Big 10 and SEC might flaunt their conference records in the playoff when trying to get more auto bids, but the real strength behind their argument is their viewership.

The ACC gets hardly more respect than the Big 12 despite going 9-9 in the CFP with 2 national championships.

To answer your questions: yeah, basically. Winning cures all and winning natties, especially when the media is on your side, basically erases any misgivings.

Randy's title was horrid, but from a national CFB perspective, which has been trained to ONLY care about the CFP and who wins the natty, yeah... the Big XII is pretty much irrelevant.

I long for the days of the BCS.

Having the Big12 win a few CFP games will do nothing to change the perception. The conference would need multiple titles by a few teams to change that. Even if Tech or someone else wins a CFP game, it would be considered a fluke or an upset.

There is still a narrative out there that the Big 12 doesn't play defense and that they all run the air raid offense.

That's not a cogent argument. Site examples and a summary why you have this opinion. "He's a ******* moron" isn't an argument, and most here won't take it that way.

The only example anyone needs to prove Randy is a moron is him falling and breaking his leg at the ISU BB game. Only a true moron could pull that off.

Randy’s latest looks at the Sorsby situation and how it impacts the Big 12 at a pretty critical time.

I thought this lame duck writer retired. No?
