Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

Can’t speak for the SEC but Big Ten has never had a problem determining a conference champion since the game was created.

Also kinda funny that in one post you’re mad that NBC got denied a sublicense deal (forgetting that the conference gains zero money from it) only to turn around and be mad that they even had the ability to sub license the game. Which by the way was a single championship game over the entire media deal. Now it’s back with Fox and not on streaming which everyone is happy with.

Honestly I gotta admit half the time I enjoy engaging with you for the incredible mental gymnastics you go through on this topic, ya never know where you are gonna end up except for saying puppets repeatedly.
If ISU were in the B1G or SEC right now he'd be out front wailing against Campbell, against the 7x10 idea, and against the pooling of media revenues.

Movement within the SEC by ADs/HCs (Byrne/Kiffin) to get rid of theirs and the B10 will as well when/if a 24 team CFP comes into play.
If it goes to 24 team the sport will die relatively fast as the regular season will be absolutely meaningless.

In that scenario sure I could see that happening but I don’t think we will get there. That would be the true death knell for college football

The B10 will get rid of their of CCG when/if Petitti's proposal for a 24 team CFP is approved. Again, a function of oversized conferences.

The initial post was also more so about NBC even having the option to sublicense that CCG game and the report stating they could fetch $70M for the game which obviously suggests the B10 left money on the table. NFL is now putting playoff games on Prime. With CCGs becoming less far less meaningful, BFD if it's on Prime and it would have been favorable for the B10 to make an extra $30M on the game instead of NBC.

And it's always humorous how the B10 fans on here always throw the biggest hissy fits with what I post especially in light that the majority of rational legacy B10 fans would applaud a move back to 10 schools while at least doubling their media revenues in the process.

Where is this majority of big ten legacy fans? You always throw things like this around or say the majority of AD’s and Presidents feel this way yet you have never once produced a single source when asked.

College football and the big ten is not the NFL. The big ten knows it’s not going to make the most money by cutting out the streaming companies but they want the exposure. Also check your math, NBC wanted 70 (they never said they had an offer) and they are getting 45-55, that’s at best 25mil to 15 min which is less then a mil per school to avoid having one of the biggest games of the season on streaming with far lower ratings, I’ll take that all day every day.

I know I'd feel better if ISU were in a better position, even playing field with everyone (Salary Cap, no tampering, equal TV and league revenue sharing) If teams can make extra money on their own great.

The NFL executives/owners choose to promote the league and make the league stronger. This allowed the league to prosper and then the individual teams became stronger. It became more about the game within the game (drafting, salary cap management, coaching) etc. Had this not happened it would have been the top 5-10 big market teams only playing for Super Bowls. Atrophy sets in and people lose interest.

College Football is in a space now that requires leadership and vision which we don't have. I have no faith that any leader in college athletics associated with the BIG and/or SEC will make college football better similar to the NFL. The only reason being the money associated with the two conferences.

That atrophy doesn’t set in for any soccer league around the world or for MLB especially with their rules changes. There has never been parody in college football but if we wanted to start you would have to cut out the G5 teams and trim a lot of the fat off some of the P4.

College football is simply too big to do this in a real way especially when it’s never been a part of cfb. What you’re talking about is essentially the “super league” that no one wants to see happen

I would agree with this. The super league would require teams to invest and yes that would include cutting the G5 out and some power 4 not willing to invest at the level needed to sustain competitiveness. Based on the numbers that might include ISU? Let the top teams battle it out, and the others play in the "bowl" league similar to our current system.

ISU deserves to be in there for sure

You're definitely wrong about that silly hot take.

What's funny is that even you previously admitted a preference for a downsized B10.

To be sure, Desser and Kosner assert that college football is in for a huge revenue windfall during its next major media rights reshuffling, regardless of whether the sport centralizes rights negotiations. The Big Ten’s deal runs through 2030, and the SEC’s runs through 2034. The duo estimates that by the time the SEC negotiates its new contracts, annual media revenue for college football will jump from $3.9 billion to $8.4 billion, even if no structural changes are made to how the sport sells its TV rights.
This is the only thing that matters, the two big guys are going to get that money anyway. Zero incentive to come to the table.

I was told that even though the SEC's media deal runs through 2034 the last 3-4 years of that deal will be voided when the B1G's media deal expires and everything goes to the 7x10 thing.
