Local media around here like to protect each other it seems like so I'm not surprised that one of the local news stations doesn't have a story up on it by now. If it were someone like Marty Tirrell they'd be all over it I am sure since he's no longer part of the local media here.
Marty Tirrell was covered up for a very very long time, mostly out of embarrassment by some who also were swindled.

I remember every local station/publication had a story about Frank Scaglione EXCEPT for KCCI, who just quietly erased anything related to him.

Outside of Marty Tirrell which was a federal case, only the DUIs from Sonya Heitshusen and Erik Wheater, just over a decade ago, got any sort of air time in print, TV, or radio.

Most misdemeanors don’t end up with someone being arrested.
That's not true. There are 3 categories of misdemeanor in Iowa, and 2 of them always have arrests (Serious and Aggravated). Simple misdemeanors occasionally have arrests, but also include simple traffic tickets (scheduled violations).

Outside of scheduled violations, I would say the majority of misdemeanors include an arrest.

I remember when he was arrested for prostitution. Miller was on the air with Tirrell. They did talk about it but not in great detail. Tommy is still in the air regularly with Miller and Condon as he is their iCu s guy and general baseball expert.

I think he could be be their new expert on legal matters too….

Ok, while the bolded is an accurate statement, I was including all misdemeanors, not just serious and aggravated. Which makes my statement accurate and was the point of my response to the poster I was responding to. The reason this is getting any exposure is because of the nature of the incident combined with it being a public figure

So Birch is quietly back on the Iowa Cubs and ISU WBB beat? Same playbook as after the prostitution bust of having him be quiet for a month or so and then slide back in with no acknowledging what happened?

Birch was the only victim in that ordeal. Good for him.

I guess not too surprising considering what a trash publication the DMR has turned into over the years. I mean this is the same paper that once employed someone that wrote a hit piece story trashing Carson King over some tweets he made as a stupid kid years before he wound up raising millions for a children's hospital just for holding up a funny sign at Gameday. Basically took the focus off all the good he was doing in the moment to focus on something he tweeted years before that had nothing to do with the good thing he had inspired. Then after all the outrage that came from that hit piece the editor doubled down and stood behind the trash hit piece and defended why they published it.

Hope Tommy is getting the help he needs to get his life back together for a 2nd time now, but at the same time it's a little shocking he's been able to keep his job for a 2nd time now when many others in local media have been let go for their blunders over the years. Not that anyone outside of central Iowa would probably know who he is I guess but others in the local media here have been let go or publicly embarrassed by stories published about their mishaps.
