Audi Crooks to Transfer

I've seen this argument a few times and have yet to see a real example of what it would look like. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush... especially when the two in the bush are completely made up hypotheticals.
No ****. Let's see what's more valuable, over a million dollars now, or... maybe another Fareway commercial after graduating?

Like, WTF are we even talking about here. Nonsense.

If we’re lucky we won’t have a home and home with OSU and can just get them away.
Why would that make us lucky? As a fan, I want that game in Hilton to boo the ever-loving crap out of her. There's very little in sports fandom that gets more entertaining than cheering against a turncoat! Bring it on.

The NIL Go clearinghouse is not standing up. Programs have already found a way around it. Iowa State just isn’t willing to. Not saying I disagree with that philosophy but it’s a fact.

Iowa State would be perfectly willing to go around it if they could financially.

I’d guess it is true. You’re going to see schools every year spend major money on WBB for a year and then have boosters realize how stupid it is when they don’t make the final 4. Those schools will then not do it again, while another school goes to repeat history.
I think it's starting to be like owners in pro sports where it's mostly a hobby for the very-rich to blow their discretionary income on. Like most of the owners of pro sports teams, even if the team is profitable (unlike most NCAA teams, I think most NFL/NBA/MLB teams are profitable), it's not usually the owner's main business, e.g. Steve Ballmer's wealth isn't from owning/operating the Clippers. According to Google, the Clippers lost about $114m last year (one of two NBA teams who were not profitable), that's ~0.08% of Ballmer's ~$140b net worth.

Or even Jerry Jones for example, yes the Cowboys are worth many billions but he made his fortune in oil and gas.

What is being reported for Oklahoma State WBB Top Players:

Heard - $2 Mil
McGill - $1.3 Mil
Crooks - $1.4 Mil

So those three are reportedly getting $4.7 Mil (plus whatever the rest of the team gets) - supposedly last year's UCLA team that won the title had a payroll of $5 Mil so that is in the ballpark for a top team.

Side note - I do think AC preference would have been to leave the Big 12 but her options were becoming limited so she decided to take the offer from OSU.

PS - You do not need to respond and say this is untrue - it is what the insiders are reporting.

I guess my question is WHY? OSU doesn't have SEC or B10 revenue. Their FB and MBB teams have struggled lately. T Boone's money has pretty much been spent. Why if you had that kind of donor money would you spend it on WBB? That's a sport that doesn't make money and most people don't care about.

I hope Audi does well. They must have a plan to help her get to the WNBA, it wasn't happening here. I thought that the brand of ball that Fennelly coached with Audi here was kind of gross. If I were a WBB fan, I'd be excited to see a little more defense and ball movement.

And the gap between OSU and the top 6-8 teams will still be huge. Women's basketball is a sham.

Is it possible that some fans aren't necessarily turning on her, and instead have hated watching this style of play the whole time but couldn't/didn't say anything because she was in an ISU uniform?

How is this style of play different than the “Get the ball to Ashley” style we ran for 5 years prior?

This is the biggest sign yet of how broken college athletics have become.

To spent $5M + on the HOPE of winning a NC in WBB, a sport that almost no one cares about is insanity.

It won’t make that money back for the U in enrollment or PR, it sure AF won’t make a fraction of it back to the donors of the NIL…

I don’t care how they spend their money, except it’ll unfortunately drag more money in & out pressure on other AD’s to follow suit.

*And you can say that people care…BUT the only measure of caring is the money. WNBA has never made a dime, WBB has never made a dime, same is true for wrestling or gymnastics. The last thing ISU and others can afford is to blow NIL money on these sports…and that’s gonna be the new demand.

What kind of attendance do you think the Cyclones Women will have. I’m not expecting large crowds. In fact, IMO we may not have a very good attendance for Coach Fennelly and this new team.
I expect the same attendance we’ve always had. It’s that way year in and year out…even during down seasons (of which there have been few).

I disagree. She has this year to make money from endorsements. She has very little brand value around here when not in a Cyclone uniform.

Iowa State itself will be encouraging local sponsors to shift to current players.

I wonder if these brands will tire of the constant roster turnover and start to shift their dollars away from college athletes at some point. If you're Fareway, you just invested god only knows how much building brand equity in Audi Crooks and just a few months later, that's gone. Even setting aside the direct payments to her, there is still countless hours of staff time for production that you got like 6-8 months of use from. I'd really think twice about going that route again.
