Milan Momcilovic tweets "entering NBA draft and portal"

I'll say the same thing here as in the transfer portal thread:
I have absolutely NO animosity toward Milan for this decision or toward TJ for needing a clear answer. I hope Milan gets drafted or at least has a 2-way guarantee and is done with cbb, but I also will cheer for him if he ends up in another college uniform. Hopefully not an ISU opponent.

They can afford him, it's just you can't afford the other 5 guys then.

Milan is a TJ guy, but in reality, he doesn't play how the program has evolved. To make him to focal point he needs to rebound, and average prob over 20, and be totally unguardable on the perimeter and the post. . That's not who is is yet.

It's just an unfortunate timing thing. Great player, just odd circumstance. Lot of other schools having same exact issue with the 2nd round guys.
Ya you're right. It's just the ncaa now.. It's become a business

Ya you're right. The ncaa really screwed up here. Tamin here for 4 years. That will be a rarity if they don't fix this

Ya you're right. Tamin stayed here all 4 years. Amazing. That will be a rarity from now on I think. Ncaa really screwed this up.

It's really dumb that he's probably genuinely committed to the draft (I hope) but because the whole system is FUBAR he also kind of has to put his name in the portal. Which is hopefully just an insurance policy but still sort of tarnishes his legacy in my fan brain.

I mean, what do people think Milan’s odds are of staying in the draft? Is it 20%? Anything below a top 20 pick and it’s more advantageous to come back to college and soak up the NIL $$ another year.
His decision. It’s been said he REALLY wants to play in the NBA level. He is coming off a historic year. It’s possible his draft stock might fall next year if his production declines. So he may still go the nba route even if he is a second round pick.

But it is still 100% his call to make. And I’m sure it’s not an easy one

The timing of this tweet coinciding with the transfer commits gives me the feeling that he is truly reacting to the need for Otz to be able to sign transfers without waiting on a decision from him. Especially if he is gunning for the league.
I agree - but almost all of the top 25 teams have players that may or may not be in the draft, either on their roster (Christian Anderson, Nate Ament, etc) or recruiting in the portal (Bidunga, Allen Graves, Juke Harris, etc).

why is ISU different? Is it just that the others have more financial and roster flexibility?

Will some other school wait for him? It's foolish to wait in this era.
The thought is that some school will both (i) still have roster space and (ii) be able to throw $3-4m at him, in late May (deadline to withdraw from draft is May 27).

At that point as a player I'd guess you have very little leverage and even fewer opportunities, but maybe I'm overestimating how many teams will already have their roster/budget set by then.

That’s the thing about the NBA - his draft stock will fall even if his production remains the same, since they draft on potential so much.

Staff got burned by AJ Green in the same situation. Otz simply doesn’t want to take the risk he doesn’t return.

And I think it’s a high likelihood he’s playing in the NBA next year anyway. Hopefully for the wolves

I don't blame the NCAA. They have been mostly powerless legally without becoming something their members don't want to be because of the larger ramifications for the schools in doing it. They knew it would be a mess and free for all and tried to keep it out of courts for years with everyone playing by the same rules. Once that veneer was off, it was over.

It's not that I don't think he's right...he might be...but this is a guy that only shows up here when the team is losing to spout off his Bieberisms...so, please excuse me if I think he's not just a wee bit happy that Milan will be with another college team instead of the NBA next year.
Didn’t Momcilovic recently guarantee that if he did return to play college ball next year - it would be at ISU?

People have been telling us this, without telling us this, on here for about a week if you read the tea leaves at all.

They’ve flat out said it on several pods.
Where was the insider heads up? Why pay for premium content

Seriously? Nothing about this is surprising at all based on what has been said.

Our team next year is good (top 20ish). Milan makes it a top 5 team. Wanting to hurry up and add a mid major that averages 10 ppg isn’t more advantageous than holding out for Milan. No way this isn’t anything other than taking advantage of more money somewhere else. Can’t blame Milan.

Probably. Who's our whale who is going to pony up a one time check for the extra $3 mil beyond our NIL budget if Milan wants to come back late? We don't have that I fear.
