WBB: 2026 Transfer Portal

So it's ok to go in with a small roster because you can always forfeit a couple games and then pull in some random walk-ons from the student body?
When your coach is leaving at the end of a throw away yr. Yeah I'm fine with it.
I like all the pearl clutching about the end of the bench. How much playing time does anyone after #8 get during the season? Not very much is the answer.

Until you lose 4 to injuries. Ask TCU in 23-24.

I think Mark Campbell is a fine coach, but those forfeits were shenanigans which shouldn't have been allowed by the conference. He got to avoid a pair of road games versus ranked opponents, almost certain losses for TCU. I can't recall the details, but it seems it cost us in tournament seeding or something?

Iowa State would probably do OK in holding on-campus tryouts. I remember watching a small school Iowa HS Girls Championship game a few years ago, maybe North Lynn or somebody in eastern Iowa. Their best player, captain of the all tournament team, was headed to Iowa State with no plans to play basketball.

North Linn?

I think most of our Women's Basketball Fan Base shows up whether it is CBF or a new coach. Think the difference in attendance will/would be very similar.
Maybe. The current fan base is there because of what has been created over the past 30 years. Little clone zone for example. Community relations by the players. Success. A coaching change that embraces many of the same things would go a long way towards maintaining the base.

It makes financial sense to do it now.

If we make a move now:
- pay his buyout at 300K, (we do not pay the retention bonus because he didn't make it to the required date)
- pay a new coach at 300-400K
- pay a new staff at 200K for all
That total is 900K

if we wait 1 year:
- Retention bonus at 800K
- New HC at 300-400K
- pay a new staff at 200K for all
That's 1.4 million

That's a 500K savings
You won’t get a new coach at 400k unless you’re in the “take a chance on someone” camp. Everyone wants a Molly Miller. That’s going to cost nearly as much as Fen is making now. Staff will require another 300k minimum.

Not everyone wants a Molly Miller. We hired a relatively young CBF after a successful run at Toledo of the MAC. If we took a chance on CBF then, we can do the same now. The co-champion of the MAC this season was Ball State and their coach, Brady Sallee, is considered one of the best coaches in the conference. His salary this season was $302,000. We can absolutely hire an experienced mid-major winner in the $400,000 range.

Not a prediction by any means, but EP and Freya seem to make quite a few TikToks together. The next two most frequent appearances in their TikToks are AJ and LT. With no bigs on the roster, wonder if there's an attempt to get LT back. Probably have to guarantee her more minutes, but I'd be ok with that. I was really disappointed with AW near the end of the year and have a hard time believing LT can be worse.

Most guys would love to have MM.

Looking at what is left of the team, time for a bit of a shopping list in the portal

Based on Bill’s style:
Center (2 if Audi leaves)
2 Power forwards / tall guards (rebounding and can shoot at least 30% from 3)
2 3-pt wings… need at least 40% from 3
1 tall guard
1 PG

This is based on AJ being the 2 (need 2 extras for foul trouble) and EP as a 3/4 but not shooting. Figure the Freshmen will be PG and hopefully Wilson or Beatty coming back, still need extra after watching fouls on some of the spots last year.
I would love to see an athletic team, not a soft team anymore. He needs to vet these girls and find tough minded/willed hungry players. Again, enough of being soft.

Will need a PG -older, leader, tough, distribute/defend, penetrate. as tall as you can find.
One more 2- sniper.
2 - 3’s ( driver/shooter. athletic and as tall as you can find).
2 -4’s. 1 bigger and one more that’s more athletic
2-5’s defending, rebounding, finishing.

I’ll be very interested in how much money BF will get how he uses it. I hope he has more money to offer.

Maybe it's not that more money came her way....maybe the locker room will be a happier/healthier place without some very big personalities sucking up all the oxygen.
“…do tell…” cmon nopers spill it.
