**** Official 2026 MBB Spring Transfer Portal Thread ****

They need to target some bigs in the portal. ISU is slated to return Toure, Batemon, Williams, Milan (unless he turns pro), Buchanan, and Pleta.

There are 4 incoming freshmen (2 centers, a PG, and a SG). I don’t know enough about these players and who may be in the rotation for next season. But generally the bigs take a year or two to develop more physically before seeing playing time, but there are exceptions

I think Pleta has potential to develop much more. He made an unbelievable pass last night. Hopefully he can routinely make those kinds of plays and develops his offensive game where he can extend the defense out

But they need another big or two who can step in right away into the rotation. I would greatly prefer them to target the 4/5 position than the 1-3 positions in the portal
I think Milan is less likely to turn pro after last night's game. It revealed him to be essentially a stand-still shooter if he's open. He needs to work on improving his drive to the hoop and to get stronger so he can post up on occasion. He did improve his footwork on defense this year, but not sure if he'll ever attain the quickness needed to guard in the NBA. Still, there are roles for shooters in the NBA.

So what are the thoughts on what we currently have outside the five rotation guys?

Mitchell is a forward that didn’t see the floor even after the injury and again while we got destroyed on the boards?

Williams, healthy is he a rotational guy?

Recruiting class. 2 bigs, 2 guards. Who stands out as the guy that can hit the ground running?

We need a center or a power forward who can rebound. Blake does not add much down low to be honest. Love the guy. He just seems to have all the athletic ability but don't understand how to rebound or finish at the rim other than dunking.
He got outplayed last night by a team with multiple bigs. Not having Jefferson to share the load down low was a huge issue. But Buchanan has made steady improvement this season and became a much better offensive player. Another offseason of strength footwork drills and I will be fine with him as the starting post next season.

It’s really hard to compete in these S16 games (unless you catch a break) without a rim protector and someone who can consistently create and get their own shot. You had to counter that issue with Milan having 20 points and everyone not missing FTs.

The one thing we don’t do on offense is spread the floor and move the ball well against athletic teams, but that is what it is.

I would honestly be surprised if Mitchell is with us next year. Haven’t heard a peep yet on Williams but I’m going to bet he’s off the bench.

Christian Wiggins is the guy who stands out IMO. Strong, athletic shooter who was Minnesota’s Mr. Basketball.

Buchanan is a fantastic second guy that can get position and score when a primary guy draws the defense. He does not have the moves to be a primary. Maybe coach Green can develop that this offseason, but I have my doubts. If Pleta can develop those skills, Buchanan becomes a better player.

Right now we got one known open scholly. I expect at least one more to open.

If you're going to have Toure, Milan, and Buchanan on the court at the same time, the other two starters need to be very good at creating their own shot.

Quan Johnson is very good at creating his own shot.

For people concerned about getting a guy that's 5'9" not getting rebounds, our 6'8", 6'10" and 6'11" guys combined for 4 rebounds in 76 minutes last night. The rebounding problem begins with them.

Milan was really hampered by the lack of post offense. He benefitted all season from the defense being drawn to Jefferson. Without Jefferson, they were able to play the guards straight up with no help defense inside. That prevented him from getting shots.

Milan can’t create his own shot and coach Nate doesn’t do any favors running plays for him

Thanks that’s exactly what I was looking for. Basically we have seven but PF is for the most part void. Definitely need two there. Do either of the incoming bigs show forward skills?
