*** Official #23 Tennessee vs #6 IOWA STATE Game(Day) Thread ***

Jefferson just said he wasn't even close to being able to play today and probably not Sunday either had we advanced.

Had a feeling that was the case. Thought a lot of folks on here were unnecessarily rude to people who expressed skepticism Jefferson would return. Our coaches have a long history of leading us on regarding the health of our players - as do many, I'm sure it isn't unique to ISU - but we'd all be wise to just stop believing them.

If Iowa lost Stirtz they would have lost first round.
Uhhh yes... for sure. They nearly lost it WITH Stirtz. That's how much of a crapshoot the tourney can be... Clemson and Iowa was a 4 pt game with just over a minute left in the game. Iowa could have easily lost that one, and the Iowa fans would have all been ticked off at their season... and nobody would know who they even are.

And ISU could have had a healthy Jefferson, and been in the Elite Eight.

This is why it's called March Madness folks. Iowa is not a better basketball team than ISU... the season showed that to be true over and over and over and over again at every turn. But they've caught a few breaks and have hit a few shots down the stretch of games they wouldn't normally make.... and here we are.

It sucks... and it's why I won't watch this tourney anymore this year after tonight. No interest in it any longer now that my team is out. It is what it is.

How many teams are going to make a deep run without their best player? You saw it with Tech losing Toppin. BYU losing Saunders certainly hurt them. Take away Stirtz from Iowa, Boozer from Duke, Lendeborg from Michigan, or Wagler from Illinois. Could they still make a deep run? I suppose its possible, but its a heck of a lot harder to do. Truth is it was just bad luck with Jefferson getting hurt, and while tonight was a disappointing result it shouldn't be a huge surprise either.
Stop it. You're making too much sense

I think the point he’s making is that the focus would have shifted from Milan to Jefferson, and Jefferson can play poorly when he’s hounded the way Tennessee would have been able to. If Toure and Milan would have been hitting their shots, then we would have been OK, but I don’t know that Jefferson would have had a great game…

He was saying Milan disappears and belongs in Europe and Jefferson wouldn’t have made a difference. Thats absolutely false.

Milan can’t carry the team without another weapon. He never has and never will. It’s not his skill set. He needs a Jefferson to at least take the main focus off him. Even if Jefferson isn’t hitting his shots, he still demands defenses to adjust. He’s also our leading rebounder in a game we got out rebounded by a metric **** ton. Jefferson is a position player and he can break down defenses.

As disappointed as it is, losing without Jefferson should not surprise any level-headed fan.

Sign me up for Sweet 16s every-other year forever. The first two rounds are about how good you are as a team over the course of the season. From there, it is about matchups and momentum. The law of large numbers says that if we keep getting to the sweet 16, eventually we’ll get a favorable matchup and break through!

I’m guessing Josh would have had about 12 points and 10 boards. With the way they would have collapsed on him in the paint his assist number may have been high as well. This far into the tournament not many teams can afford to lose an All American
He is our Lendeborg. Would Michigan drop
off without him? Abso-*******-lutely. We've had poor luck with injuries, just reality. Don't believe in curses & just happens to have been 2 of the 3 Sweet 16s TJ has led us to we've had key injuries. The standard has been set & continues to grow, just need improvement from all: coaches, players, fans/supporters - along with patience. Stills hurts to Hell how multiple chances have ended the way they have.
