WBB: 2026 Transfer Portal

Do we think it is possible that a decision was made by ISU Ath Dept to give a higher % of NIL money to FB & MBB for next year and that several of the WBB players were actually offered less $ for the '26-'27 season than they got the last season or 2? That would be tough to accept and would motivate me to try going somewhere else; even if I did like the school, fans, & coaches.
WBB loses allot of money. ALLOT.

Strictly my personal opinion, but I don't see JP doing that to existing players. ISU dropped gymnastics and promised to replace it, when it would have been just as easy to save that money entirely. This is strictly my 2 cents worth with no insider knowledge. n

Two things can be true at the same time: (1) That many players have had wonderful, lifechanging athletic and academic careers as part of this program; and (2) That the landscape is different now and the program needs to change with it.
Absolutely correct. It’s just like the fact that Audi is one of the best players to ever play in Ames and the best offensive difference maker ever…. While also being one of the worst defensive players of the past 20 years. Half the time she doesn’t even try to get across half court before we regain possession.

Everything gets stated as either/or and sometimes it’s a bit of and/both.

You can cite defensive liability and it is true, but it just isn't true that she doesn't get back. Audi's defensive assignment rarely scored in the break and we rarely got a rebound before she was down there in position. The lack of trying to close out on jumpshots is real, but your post has zero truth.

Pretty much sums it up. Two eras…one about commitment, development and learning how to succeed in life. The other about marketing, making money and, in many cases, not worrying about commitment.

I get that perception, but I feel the reality is college athletes in the portal & rev share/NIL era are professionals.

Not unlike 20-something ISU grads in engineering, business, etc. Job hopping is common to diversify experience, make more cash, live in different city, etc

So I feel the reality in modern college sports is coaches (and fans) have to embrace the new norm.

People tend to overlook that TJ has seen pretty significant churn in the men's roster. I believe Lipsey is the first freshman to also graduate at Iowa State (and he's an Ames kid).

Maybe Hunter leaving after year 1 was the eye-opener TJ needed. Maybe it was always there. TJ has a pretty solid grasp of the school/ coach/ player dynamic. But he's a 40-something and Bill's a 60-something.

I love Stacy Frese and I’ll gladly take her kid and hope she does great things for Iowa State but to think someone who averaged 8 ppg, 1 assist, and 1 rebound for the second worst team in the MoValley is going to come in and be better than the likes of any of the guards we’re losing is fooling themselves.

She’ll be a good bench add, probably be low to no cost NIL, and if anything like her mother, an elite teammate. But she should not be expected to be a big contributor, at least as a sophomore

Lots of things are being discussed as to why players are leaving. I think it is as simple as the team has underachieved the past two years and the players believe that BF is a large reason for that. They do not think he will change next year and they expect another unfulfilled season. I personally don’t care for Bill’s demeanor and the way he has favorites, but if this team had been successful we wouldn’t be losing some of our best players to the portal. We wouldn’t be losing starters, we would be looking to add players for a deeper run. The fact is players do not believe in Bill’s abilities as a head coach.

I mean, also a previous era where players faced more consequences if they didn't want to put up with a coach anymore (namely that they'd have to sit a year) and now players have the freedom to move on from a bad situation.

Its inarguable bill has had many players who left because they wanted something different, those numbers probably would have been larger historically if players had options.

And, honestly, I think the way you're putting it, indirectly making it as if current-era players are somehow less able to have commitment\develop\succeed is pretty insulting to current players. Just because they take advantage of their options when a coach isn't getting it done isn't some negative against them
