***Official 2026 NCAA Tournament Thread***

Hey, @HoopsTournament, how many times in 64-team era has there been 3 teams from same conference in Sweet 16 within a single region (as with Big Ten in South Region this season)?

This might be "findable" with a random web search, but easier to ask you :)
In 1986, The South(east) Regional @ Atlanta had LSU, Kentucky, Alabama (from the SEC) and Georgia Tech (former SEC member). LSU beat GA Tech and Kentucky beat Alabama in the Sweet 16. LSU won the Elite 8 game vs. Kentucky.

Conner McCaffrey and the Brands brothers have contributed for me.

Dude…. don’t you think that there are past Iowa State players and coaches that Iowa fans are propping up as a villain as well….:)

I’ll tell you a story, I actually read on here. I think I even remember the guys moniker but I’m not gonna say it out loud. But I’ll bet if you dig 12 13 15 years back in the archives of threads this site has…..you could find it.

This guy was laughing and yukking it up about Dwayne Crutchfield, yes that’s how old I am. Apparently had a 80 yard touchdown run against Iowa 100 years ago. I don’t remember it, but the legend has it that when he ran by Hayden he flipped him off and said something vulgar as he was running down the sidelines….

See an Iowa State fan would celebrate that, and an Iowa fan, if he even knew it had happened and I’m not sure how many do, would villainize him, that’s how fickle and stupid it all is.

GT was in ACC in '86. Left SEC after '63. The others @AlaClone mentioned were/are SEC.
Yep! I was noting that GT was a former SEC Team in 1986, not that they were in the SEC at the time. Just an odd coincidence with the 3 SEC teams. Also, Besides the SEC having Alabama, LSU and Kentucky in that Regional, Auburn (with Chuck Person) made the Elite 8 in the Louisville Regional. Louisville ultimately beat LSU and Duke in the Final Four @ Dallas to win their 2nd NC.

I don’t doubt any of that at all. But I fail to understand how that makes the Brands or Conner any less unlikable? I know these are your heroes, but to this Iowa State fan, they are pieces of ****. It’s fine to have a hatred for your rivals. Not many claim to cheer for both teams. And I don’t really believe anyone who says they do.

LOL, that’s because you have built-in biases and presuppositions of course you don’t think that…

And brother, I’ve lived a pretty interesting life and there have been plenty of people, that I’ve hated in my life…But It is an absolutely useless emotion and generally speaking the people down the street, the ones that everyone thinks are awesome. End up having lots and lots and lots of skeletons. I would never ever judge somebody without deeply knowing them like you just have…

Case in point you don’t know **** about me… Although I’m a huge sports fan, celebrities and sports people are not my heroes. I’m a huge Caitlin Clark fan, but I have no interest in meeting her and I have no interest in getting her autograph. I have a very well rounded and simple life. Don’t make people more important than they are and don’t look down your nose at people, one day you may need them to help you.

Here is where my thoughts about the Brands brothers start & stop… There are undoubtably many people that think they are heroes and great guys. I happen to be friends with someone that lived with them initially in college on the wrestling team and they are certainly strange & seem douchey but they are wrestlers, who are all a completely different breed.

I think nothing about Conner McCaferry but never in 100 years would I waste a bunch of energy, holding negative views about someone like that.

I mean seriously in a world where many sports heroes have committed crimes, assaulted women, Anthony Brown….etc.

Yeah I’m super upset about Tom Brands & Conner McCaffery. That’s just an Iowa State fan thing.

I have a weird feeling that Iowa is going to play Illinois for the final four and we get killed on the glass and lose tomorrow. I Hate my brain.

Completely possible. My best coping mechanism is throwing a sizable wager on the Iowa moneyline. Not going to do the same on Tennessee yet, but maybe if Iowa wins tonight.

Not going to happen…. and although I’m an Iowa fan, Illinois is just better in every degree. Just like Iowa State is better in every degree than Tenn.

Besides the fact that Iowa needs to beat Nebraska 1st. As you know, Iowa has been inconsistent all year long. Sports become a lot more relaxing when you can be honest about your team, the other team and how important it is or isn’t.

LOL…. always thought about doing that myself, but I think gambling is a major problem in the world and quite frankly if I’m so obsessive. (And I have been) that I’m willing to hedge my team’s chances of winning by betting against them… Then honestly, I need some help.

I’m not even saying you do, but it’s not right and yes, I’ve been there many times in my life

Aaahhh, I was willing to go with it… Even though I was fairly certain I couldn’t have possibly forgotten that lol. Georgia Tech is one of those teams that have had times when they were pretty good in football and basketball and kind of a closet team for me.

I've watched him play a ton and I just don't get it. He's incredibly average.

Agreed…nor do I care for Purdue. As an interesting aside… Five or six years ago I was on the Purdue message board when they were screaming about MATT painter, again….If you don’t know a decent portion of their fan base (much like ALL fan bases) have wanted him fired for years.

They were talking about how he finally coached his best game, I think it was a one point win over Michigan State… And I said really, when one missed free-throw, one Poor call, one dribble off your foot, one moving screen, changes the outcome of the game and this is the best game he ever coached….

That’s just how stupid fans are
