Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

Ok so no sources for the presidents now we’re just assuming. Any actual sources saying a majority of big ten coaches or fans that want this?

No one previously posted this, you are making wild assumptions based on your own feelings and then spreading those assumptions around to a bunch of other groups
Ok, you're offended because for some misguided reason, you prefer keeping the B10 as-is as a dysfunctional oversized clustereff. You are in the minority of legacy B10 fans on that matter.

Read this post again. If fans and coaches would be in favor of a downsized 10-team B10, safe to assume the legacy Presidents/ADs would as well:

Do you really believe members of Congress representing Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Texas, Kentucky, Missouri, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Pennsylvania, California, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, Oregon, Washington, Nebraska, Maryland, would vote in favor of the SAFE Act assuming it included pooling media rights?

I just want to get you on the record.
Looks like you need to cross Missouri and Washington off your list. There will be more:

Dude you’re quoting a poster on here who is just making a guess. That’s not anywhere near an actual source, that’s my whole point. If you want to keep making that kinda claim find some actual sources not just your own feelings.

But but but... anyone that disagrees with him is Dumb, Stupid, Immature, Offended, Biased, or all the other insults and names he has used. Because of course he is the only one in the know, and he somehow can see the future and only his sources, have it right and are of course the only ones that are unbiased etc etc etc.

Ive met some serious jackasses in my life and this guy ranks up there with them.

I actually find it comical we are at this point.

Looks like you, speedy and crazy guy need to focus on realignment news strictly from the AP instead of educated speculation from a message board.

There isn’t a lot of detail given but some of the quotes are fairly provocative, like this one:

“There is support among other memberships for a similar model,” one Big Ten athletic director told Yahoo Sports. “Each league governs itself and plays only games within the league.”

I’m guessing this would mean no more non-conference games but still keeping the CFP under the current rules but the article even hints that the CFP might be at risk (personally I’ll believe that when I see it because there is too much money at stake).

A couple other interesting quotes:

What if other leagues don’t adopt similar rules and enforce them? One SEC athletic director says it’s "plausible" to have an SEC-only independent enforcement arm, but that could cause problems with national competition.

“If the Big Ten does something different, it doesn’t work,” the official said. “Our coaches would be up our asses.”

That’s why some within the SEC believe that conference-only competition is necessary — at least eventually — if other conferences do not adopt and enforce similar policies.

“l think we’d want to play with the schools following the rules,” said Morehead, the Georgia president. “I think this plan would work because college football fans are focused on the SEC. Look at the TV ratings this past season. Our fans want to see a rules structure.”

Here's the single largest issue with this thread.

You don't present your opinions as "educated speculation." You present them as unalienable facts and attack any dissenters with vitriol that would make a 12-year-old cringe.

I'd bet nearly everyone in this thread, non-ISU fans included, would LOVE for you to be right. We'd all prefer a version of college athletics that shrunk conferences and returned to regional focuses. Deep down, we all want you to be right, myself included. It would be better for the game and the fans.

But not everyone thinks that WILL happen and it's not only ok, but healthy to have discourse with room for discussing every possibility, including those that don't align with what Cody Campbell says he's trying to accomplish. I feel confident saying that being a little less hostile and defensive would go a long way towards improving the conversation here, and in many walks of life.

I hope the SEC does this. I was tired of their bullying and arrogance years ago. Like to see them try. Even the SEC fans know it is all smoke. They would be bored playing each other. They probably wouldn't do it without the Big 10 and even if they do, good luck. The tide has turned where their threats are meaningless.

So the conference that spent more than a half century breaking every "rule" in the book now wants everyone to follow the rules?

The SEC short writes itself.

Interesting article with some great quotes from coaches and ADs if you have the time to read it. Not anything new in it, but fascinating to hear insiders views on the breaking point we’re at with NIL and the current Nebraska lawsuit challenging enforcement of NIL Go.

Seems crazy that the Power 2 just agreed to the structure of the house settlement and then the same athletic departments that made the rules refuse to follow the own rules they set in place such a short time after making them.

A little tinfoil hat time. I wonder if the Power 2 agreed to the deal not to level the playing field between all teams, but to prevent their conferences members from competing against themselves so much that they drive up the price so high.

Like if there was no cap imagine what the SEC schools would be willing to spend to win at football. I feel like Texas or A&M would be fielding 100m dollar rosters pretty quick.

Could care less about if there's a cap. Whatever money they want to give players they'll find a way to do. Just fix the portal and tampering.
