Bill Fennelly

We aren't until we are fully funding revenue sharing without deficit funding.

Won't be popular but for the results its producing the WBB budget is too high for revenue sharing. TJ needs that.
I wonder if Geno A has any animosity towards Dickhead Hurley about what his women's program gets compared to what their men's team gets?

Honestly, I think we are screwed. Other than Jada, Bill hasn’t shown that he can get high impact transfers from the portal. Jada knew we had a huge need at PG and she had a relationship with Addy. I think Wilson, Tanke, Jensen, and Taulelei should all look for opportunities elsewhere for their benefit. The issue is who would want to transfer to Iowa State with our returning staters, lack of success and a lame duck coach.
A 1 year player to build for a year with Audi, Jada and Addy. AJ and Hare as role players. Go find 1 year 6 ft or taller 3 and 4 spot players. Sell playing with our 3 seniors. That's your chance, that's who you go after.

The hell they don't. The money has to come from somewhere.

Until Iowa State is fulfilling its full revenue share obligation to athletes ISU isn't hooking individuals up with NIL deals.

Simply put let's say Fareway gives $100k to ISU annually. Fareway is now skipping that ISU donation and it’s going straight to Audi. Audi is also commanding the largest portion of WBB revenue sharing. Now Jamie has to pull $100k from reserves to fund the AD.
You’re missing the point. It’s an ISU issue that needs to change, and prob what Fennelly was referring to. As Travis Hines pointed out in his NIL article in the Register this week:

“The Cyclones, simply, have not been as aggressive in the above-the-cap space as their peers, both in the Big 12 and across the country. There are real reasons for that – the donor base, department financial constraints, NIL Go vetting – but the reality is as cold as the cash that runs it.”

I dunno, Iowa football somehow gets good WR recruits and portal QBs, even though their passing game sucks donkey balls.

Meh, that’s debatable…and I’m a huge Iowa football fan. Defense, we can get all kinds of terrific players, transfer or high school, but outside of Gronowski, I’m not sure we’ve lit the world on fire with QBs & definitely not WRs. And I like Iowas most recent OC

When they underachieved last year, I told myself I wouldn’t get my hopes up for this year. Then they landed J Williams and I thought we might’ve had the pieces to do something special.

I’m not going to be fooled again. Our coaching stinks. I don’t care what hype we get next year or what ranking we’ve got after being 15-0 to start again. This team has a cap with this staff, period.
Unfortunately, this is the answer. Last year all the 3 point shooters were here (Hare and the lefty.. can’t remember name). Disappointment. This year, same. Impact PG thst p lmk ST’s a style thst we haven’t seen in awhile. Same results.

Crooks wouldn’t answer Birch’s question today if she was planning on coming back next year.

If 2 of our big 3 leave, I think it has to be it for Bill, unfortunately. I’m all for one last ride, but not if it’s just duct taping a team together. Let the new staff do that.

Ask yourself this, if Brown & Williams stayed, Comito was able to step up to the competition. Still questionable because although I was really impressed with her, I’m not sure she’s quick enough to step right in. But all the same…..say she can, those other two players return and now you can advertise for a whole new game plan…for transfers? Isn’t it possible Iowa State could be better?

If I’m not mistaken, Iowa State generates a lot of TV views for Women’s Basketball. Now that could be because of Audi, but….still

Bill isn’t handcuffing good shooters like you and others are suggesting. And if they don’t want to willingly pass to a scorer like Audi, no good coach should want them.
I don’t disagree - I do think our good shooters are afraid to shoot, though. Bill has said the same. Now why would they be afraid to shoot?

For example, I think Hare only shoots if there’s a play drawn up for her to shoot. I’m not sure we have many that understand if you’re wide open, you can take the three

Not good enough to play at LSU.
Her height and hustle are commendable.

Her missing 3 consecutive good looks under the basket - we’re talking wide open layups - is not.

I had to look her back up on the roster to make sure she really was at LSU because I don’t think I’d ever seen such a poor shooting streak

He brought in Harris, Hansford, and Paulk in to fill those roles the past two years, but they haven’t been good enough to be Big 12 starters. He needs someone good enough to send Hare to the bench, but he hasn’t proven he can get that and we don’t have a lot of positive energy to sell right now.

Johnny Orr did this. An unheard of coach named Tim Floyd was hired and did some good things with a senior-laden roster.
I am not sure Johnny had much of a choice…..Gene Smith did the right thing in that situation.

I'm not missing the point at all. Are you willing to walk into the FB or MBB offices and say their budget is being cut for a WBB player? Because that is what you're advocating for by pushing for outside NIL. The dollars aren't infinite. There isn't an above the cap when you aren't even fully funding the cap without spending reserves.

Hines is a no-talent ass clown. His whole shtick is trying to stir **** up out of nothing. He's making a ******** emotional plea on something that's extremely easy to understand with logic.

I would be very curious to see where we rank in women's basketball player "payroll." I can't imagine there's that huge of a gap between us and most everyone else. Football, yes. Women's hoops, not significant enough to use that excuse.

Our Rev share for WBB is 750k. I have to think other than Baylor and TCU we are at least at parity with other Big 12 schools. Our NIL funding shouldn’t be an excuse for why we aren’t competing for the Big 12.

The lack of development has been a problem for a while. Most of our players peak within their first two years then don't continue to improve.

Relatedly I also think our WBB strength and conditioning needs a hard look.
