Bill Fennelly

Here’s my offseason strategy.

Assuming every starter comes back, there’s two calls I’m making

Jenna Twedt, UNI leading scorer. From Benton HS. Took 7 threes a game. Give her Hannah Belanger role. We are desperate for more confident shooters

Elise Jaeger, UNI leading rebounder with 10 boards a game. Will shoot 3s if left open. From Valley. Promise her AB/Crooks replacement off bench at a minimum with chance to start at 4.

Potential con - both play good defense so wouldn’t mesh with our scheme
Neither one of those are Big 12 players.

Crooks wouldn’t answer Birch’s question today if she was planning on coming back next year.

If 2 of our big 3 leave, I think it has to be it for Bill, unfortunately. I’m all for one last ride, but not if it’s just duct taping a team together. Let the new staff do that.

Wonder what our NIL budget is for the program?
According to Fennelly it’s a hindering factor in getting the talented players to Ames.

Would be best for both sides if all four of those hit the portal.
Paulk is such an energy player, love her. Williams has done alright, but the others…
I think Bill needs to go. The program is well thought of and we’d land a great coach who can find athletes to play here. If we can keep what we have and they can add some other pieces we’d be pretty good. (They can’t be any worse of a screamer than Bill.) it’d be welcome to have a coach coach in game instead of get angry and scream at the girls.

I haven't kept up with this thread but Bill should step away. Amazing career and legacy but this season was the writing on the wall. Audi, Addy and Jada should be elite 8 no question.
Does it really matter honestly? Evidently women’s basketball can only have a couple teams that have an honest chance at winning the whole thing. I don’t know how you find someone who is going to have markedly better results than Bill.

To my knowledge we have zero NIL budget.
The players are on their own to make deals.

I do not remember the revenue sharing budget for WBB - I thinks it’s about $1M.

On the contrary, schools can facilitate brand partnerships with third parties, and connect athletes with NIL service providers.
I’d guess ISU has less horsepower in this than other schools do.

I will be shocked if any P4 talent willingly comes here to pass the ball to Audi. My guess is this staffs best bet for transfers will be nabbing the best Iowa has to offer.
Bill isn’t handcuffing good shooters like you and others are suggesting. And if they don’t want to willingly pass to a scorer like Audi, no good coach should want them.

We aren't until we are fully funding revenue sharing without deficit funding.

Won't be popular but for the results its producing the WBB budget is too high for revenue sharing. TJ needs that.

Do the right thing CBF. Retire now and the cupboard is not bare. Perhaps some players will stay. Otherwise you are thinking of you and that's not the Iowa State way. Did I get that right?
Johnny Orr did this. An unheard of coach named Tim Floyd was hired and did some good things with a senior-laden roster.

??? NIL deals have nothing to do with revenue sharing or what deficit a sport is running.

I think beside Audi Addy and Jada if we could get an elite guard or wing player in the portal AJ or Hare could thrive as the 6th.
Idk if I'm Hare, I'm gone....clearly she doesn't fit into Fennelly's game plan as all she's tasked to do is stand in the corner and do nothing. AJ I think will stay no matter what because she is a Clone to the bone.

The hell they don't. The money has to come from somewhere.

Until Iowa State is fulfilling its full revenue share obligation to athletes ISU isn't hooking individuals up with NIL deals.

Simply put let's say Fareway gives $100k to ISU annually. Fareway is now skipping that ISU donation and its going straight to Audi. Audi is also commanding the largest portion of WBB revenue sharing. Now Jamie has to pull $100k from reserves to fund the AD.

LSU Williams that transferred here is a perfect example. 5 star freshman, went to LSU and transferred here. Redshirted, last year sucked, this year sucked. ZERO DEVELOPMENT.
And as much as dislike her as a human being, had she stayed at LSU, Kim would've developed her into probably a pretty decent player....she definitely got passed up on the depth chart in Baton Rouge but she has REGRESSED since being in Ames.
