*** Official Tennessee State vs #6 IOWA STATE Game(Day) Thread ***

I wouldn't even say miracle. I think we can beat UK without JJ as long as the other guys are on their game. Just won't be nearly as easy as if we had JJ.
In some ways the offense is looking better than it has at times with Jefferson. He’s great because he does a lot well…he doesn’t do any one thing at an elite level. We may be able to have people step up and fill the gaps in ways we couldn’t when Niang went down. Maybe.

Laughing at all the gamesmanship thoughts vs Kentucky. Probably true but when I watch Kentucky they look like Pope and a bunch guys that just met like 5 minutes before tipoff and have never practiced together.

People more concerned about the name on the front. If you watched them play at all this year, you would understand why they are a 7 seed. A mediocre team in a mediocre conference

Did you see the injury? Curious your thoughts as a doctor on the likelihood he'll be able to play in two days.
Pretty low but not zero based on just the video I saw, haven’t heard an update on the X-rays or not.

The main issue is pain management. You can put a nerve block in to help with that but your body has pain receptors for a reason and playing basketball the way he does that injury is going to get worse doing that. With a potential NBA draft coming up I’m sure his team will be advising against it.

If it’s not a fracture and they get a handle on the inflammation next weekend is an outside possibility but probably wouldn’t be advised

I understand the temptation to say this…to cope with what you assume is worst case scenario, but I’ve seen ankle turns that looked bad that didn’t lead to what you’re assuming. I’m not saying he’s not done, but we need to wait and see. X-ray results will obviously tell us a lot. Then we can see if they can work on him or not.

People are overreacting based on what happened with Gilbert last year. He played on that bad groin much of 2025, and not only did it never get better, it probably got worse to the point where he couldn't go anymore, so it was time to hang it up and think about his pro career (and I don't fault him for that).

It's too early to assume that JJ is in the same boat because we don't know the details of the injury - all we know is he's doubtful to return today. JJ is a dog and is the kind of dog that wants to see this through. I would say the only way he doesn't return is if the injury is so severe that recovery puts him out, or if playing on the injury would make it worse. Otherwise - I think he wants this
