CF REACTION: Iowa State Women draw 8-seed, will face Syracuse in UConn region

Wow - there is ZERO enthusiasm on this board for the women’s team in the tournament. I tried to listen to Chelsea, Leah and Jake’s podcast, which abruptly ended after about six minutes and was nowhere to be found. Even the CF staffers have abandoned ship!

The season ended up disappointing, in part due to the injuries, but as far as exposure, this isn't a horrible draw and a decent seed considering. We'll get a competitive game and then if we win we will be a premier game for round two, even if we get killed. Did the committee do this on purpose to get Audi more exposure? I know someone was discussing this a week or two ago.

It's not entirely their fault. Drawing UCONN is a downer because they're so freaking good. Maybe we'll shock the world and pull off something crazy. Truthfully, there are like 3 teams that can realistically play with them. For me, it's just disappointing knowing they very likely only have one game left this year. It would be different if we had a 25% chance of a win in the second round. This feels more like 0.25%.

But, as they say, that is why they play the games...

I found this website on Reddit https://www.boxscorus.com/ncaaw/march-madness

It has the regions set up wrong (regions 2 and 4 are switched), but it is a simulation of the tournament 10,000 times. It shows us as having a 17% chance of beating UConn. That is way too high I think, I would give us a 2% chance.

The top couple of teams are light years ahead of everyone else. Watching a good Iowa team get beat by 50 against UCLA and UCONN beat them by 26 earlier this year - with our defense, UCONN will name the score.
I'm not saying ISU will win, or likely has a chance...but that's why the games get played. Who knows what happens to either team in round one or during the game. If either loses a key player or goes cold shooting...anything can happen. It has before...so I'll keep hoping until it doesn't.

This is like USA-Russia hockey in 1980. ISU WBB could win, but it is very unlikely.

Only chance we would have against UConn would be to take 30 threes and make at least 20.

Lots of ways it could happen. Most likely would be a mirror of the last time ISU beat UConn
The same way any underdog takes down a juggernaut. You get hot, they get cold. They lose a key player to fouls or injury. Keep it tied/close going into the 4th Q and it becomes a 50/50 game. The winner is whoever can make the plays down the stretch.

One of my HS coaches always told us "Don't let bad teams hang around. Bury them early and they will fold. If you let them stay in the game, they will play with nothing to lose." (Not saying ISU is a bad team here, of course.)

Karen Aston is coaching the Texas directional school our hosting team is playing. I'd forgotten all about her.

What would UCONN's backups be ranked, I wonder? Has to be top 20, right?
Fun question.

Looking at their usage their starting 5, they only take up a 62% of minutes. By how handily UConn has beat everyone I don't think it's a stretch to say they would be a top 15 and maybe a 2-4 seed.
