*** Official #7 IOWA STATE vs #2 Arizona Game(Day) Thread ***

It's become very important that Iowa State beat Arizona today, since their fans have descended into madness and whining about Kansas City as the tournament location once again. They need something real to cry about.

After our game vs Texas Tech , the ESPN anchor guy interviewed Yormark.

“This Floor the players have been sli….playing on”

The anchor almost said Slipping!

It took a lot of guts for Yormark to make the call to remove that glass floor. Although it was an easy call. The stakes are too high.

1. Arizona #0 Jaden Bradley trying to get into Toure's head between plays. In Tucson, Bradley was often chirping at Toure and bumping him as he came down court without the ball. One time, Bradley even wrapped his arms around Toure's mid-section as they walked downcourt on a deadball. It was like he was showing Toure what he could do without getting called for a foul. You can get away with more of that stuff at home than in KC.

2. Arizona #2 Dwayne Aristode constantly being all over Milan. In Tucson, Aristode was incredibly physcial and aggressive with Milan, both when he had the ball and when he was trying to get open. I hope that Aristode gets called for more fouls, but I also hope that Milan fights harder to get open for passes and shots.

3. Driving into their bigs early. In Tucson, it seemed like we were afraid to take it to the hoop. Yes, their interior defense is really strong, but I don't think we should leave it untested. Again, I think that they are more likely to be called for fouls in KC than they were at home.

4. Not leaving guys wide open under the basket. Kudos to the Texas Tech coaches for spotting the hole in our defense and exploiting it at least 3 times in the first 10 minutes of the second half. Kudos to the Iowa State coaches for making an adjustment. I don't Tech got another one of these for the rest of the game (although they did get at least two passes in the second half to someone under the basket, but they weren't uncovered) like in the first half.

I think Milan needs to learn to "sell" the fouls a little more. Fall over a few times (as if he were tripped), flail his head back, throw up his arms. He gets absolutely mauled on his cuts and does nothing about it other than take it and then he kind of wimps out and stops cutting.

He'll get some calls and then he'll get some space and start knocking down 3's and we're in business.

I caught that too! Guy almost let it slip and I thought for sure the word slipping was going to be brought up in the interview but it never was.

Bradley dribble-drive is the key to me. Iowa State can generally impose its will on other teams when it can force their guards horizontal. I thought Iowa State’s guards did a nice job on Bradley in Tucson, but he still managed to get in the lane at times, and made some tough runners. When he handles the pressure, things get really difficult, because he’s looking to score but can dump off to their giants or kick out, and I know they don’t light it up from three, but they have guys capable of making wide open ones, and they started making some of those late in the 1H and in the 2H in Tucson

While Pleta has become a very serviceable backup to Buchanan—and thus you have 10 fouls at the 5—Jefferson foul situation would be my second key. We don’t have to like how he played point forward in Tucson, but he needs to be on the court for this team to be at its best
