***OFFICIAL 2026 WEATHER THREAD***

This is good info, I was just looking at getting a Tempest station... Damn Ryan Hall marketing
Other than that I like it but yeah wind wise my experience has not been reliable above 30. For instance so far this morning in Marion it claims only one gust above 35 (it reached 50 indicated). I have found the rain sensor to be surprisingly accurate compared to other reviews (it does use machine smoothing etc as it looks at other Tempest stations around you but I have never been more than a few hundredths to a tenth off of other nearby COCRAHS reports). The rest of the station is rock solid IMO just the ultrasonic wind sensor has room for improvement.

Today is garbage day in my neighborhood, so everyone put their bins out last night... Rough guess, about 60% have blown over (especially the lighter recycling ones full of loose paper, etc.), and everyone's front yards are covered in trash

Decided to park far away from any trees at work today. We've got a couple slated for removal at some point and certainly don't want to be anywhere near them if mother nature decides to take them down early.

My one complaint with my Tempest station is it does not handle strong winds well. anything over 30ish is sus.
Weather station placement is a big deal for accurate readings. I have seen stations that show big variations in rainfall and wind because of location. Under a downspout overflow and in the wind tunnel that occurs between buildings are a couple of issues.
When properly located, the Tempest stations seem to be very good.
