CJR on Triple Option Podcast

Had to laugh when Urban ‘Ever been to Ames?’ Meyer tried to act shocked when he heard CJR use the term ‘going rate’ for players in the portal. Good ole Urban has been working with that term for the last 20+ years.

Thought CJR had a good interview, however.

That was a great interview. One difference observed was that CJR said he wasn't looking to move up the ladder paraphrasing. This differs from Pollard relaying a conversation he had with CJR where CJR asked Pollard how to be a head coach at Iowa State. Pollard said he had to take a lower level FBS job, which he did at Washington State, though I wouldn't classify Washington State as lower level to be fair to them.

The one thing that really stands out when you hear him talk or read about him is that his recruiting is highly organized and geared toward the modern NIL environment. In some ways, I think that gives these young coaches a significant advantage against the older coaches whose entire plan has had to evolve, often with a bit of internal resistance to the changes.

Yep, he mentioned he's getting a house built in Ames. Hopefully the contractor takes his time.

Liked this podcast a lot. Also, Jimmy using the term "going rate" for players and saying the quiet part out loud might have been my favorite.

The overwhelming thought I had while watching this was that football in Ames will be 100% fine, and FWIW, i am stoked for the season. We might be good
