Oklahoma Nebraska and Missouri all had it before they left for what it’s worth. We always had the bare minimum but it’s never been a huge B12 sport like it is in the SEC

I have no inside perspective, but from the outside it simply looks like the environment around our women's gymnastics team was so incredibly toxic and that it was beyond repair.
If I were a team member, parent, or coach who contributed to this dysfunctional environment, I would be so embarrassed that I contributed to the death of the entire program.

A lot of the travel expense is hotel and providing every meal to coaches, players, and support staff when they are on the road. Traveling exclusively by charter bus vs the teams that have to fly some would save money, but not slash the travel budget by well over half. Its a less expensive alternative to a portion of the travel budget.
Equipment/supplies/unforms would be on the lower end of the range for women's sports, but you still have all of the athletic training supplies etc. Saying it will be on the bottom end of the range is fair, saying they will spend close to nothing isn't realistic.
Isn't the insurance for a sport like gymnastics a lot higher than other sports? Odds of getting seriously hurt in a sport like gymnastics has to be a lot higher than wrestling.
That’s how they originally did it with the soccer team. They moved the club up to varsity.
Here is the section that includes risk management. It's a little hard to know exactly what is going where, because there are a lot of things in Direct Overhead & Administrative Expenses section. As an example Tennis is high in 2024 because of their new facility. But gymnastics wasn't an outlier in terms of being high. I'm sure the department pays more per athlete for risk management in gymnastics, swimming and diving, and football than other sports but it doesn't appear to be some huge expense.

It's just so unique, like alternating back and forth between two different events and then having like two hockey intermissions after a set of the routines is done.
Also, I love competition but there's also some really good comradery with the athletes and fans, even opposing ones.
