Title IXWow actually surprised that they did it and are seemingly going to add another sport. I thought for sure they were just going to discontinue the program and leave it at that.

I think Title 9 isn't sport vs sport but actually scholarship vs scholarship - and football skews it massively to men's.I though we went over this in the other thread that we already had 18 sports and only need 16 and that ISU's male/female ratio means we already meet the Title 9 requirement. I stopped paying attention to that thread so I could be wrong.
College students partied too hard and didn’t respect the coach. The coach blew up at them and the athletics department is hitting the reset button on the whole thing by getting rid of it.
We're probably already fine from a Title IX standpoint. I believe the women's side had been slightly over-represented, and removing gymnastics probably doesn't swing the needle hard enough the other direction to be a problem.I think they have to add another sport due to Title 9 and/or remain D1 status
Such a bummer. Have a daughter that is just coming to the age that she is interested in sports and she has really taken a liking to gymnastics. We watched the Utah meet on TV and she was really excited at the prospect of going watch meets.
I'm with Agclone91. My daughter loved going to gymnastics meets and loves going to basketball games, but she'd rather watch gymnastics than basketball.Take her to basketball games.
I find it ridiculous that we're now in the 'free market' era of college athletics, and at the same time attempting to hold on to Title IX rules.I though we went over this in the other thread that we already had 18 sports and only need 16 and that ISU's male/female ratio means we already meet the Title 9 requirement. Seems like an unnecessary response. Clearly I can take her to basketball games - the point is that she is interested in gymnastics and now we no longer have that potential bonding experience of combining my love for Iowa State with an interest of hers.Take her to basketball games.
We would be D3 then, but go on.Good, time to ax all non-revenue sports and throw it all on FB, MBB, WBB and wrestling.
I'm saying the NCAA and The Big 12 need to get rid of rules requiring min. # of sports. We would be D3 then, but go on.
There is definitely a legal problem here that someone will eventually have to contend with. T9 was never designed with the current state of college sports in mind. It does not fit that mold whatsoever. Forcing colleges to continue adhering to T9 is quite literally costing them millions of dollars a year, at a time when massive scrutiny is placed on college funding and costs, on the back of a sports system that is now dominated by money in amounts that were not possible to foresee in the seventiesI find it ridiculous that we're now in the 'free market' era of college athletics, and at the same time attempting to hold on to Title IX rules.
Why stop there? Ax WBB and wrestling they both lose money too.Good, time to ax all non-revenue sports and throw it all on FB, MBB, WBB and wrestling.

I would be SHOCKED if this isn't the case.Wondering if this is more to do with money.
