*** Official #16 Texas Tech vs #4 IOWA STATE Game(Day) Thread ***

When was the last time we saw that effort for 40 minutes? When that's the question being asked you can't call that an identity.

It's impossible to keep that up for an actual 40 minutes and dillusional to think they should just do that.

ISU is a very good team, one of maybe 6 teams that can win the title, but there is a gap between the top 3 teams, Duke, Arizona and Michigan and the other three teams, UCONN, Houston and us. What separates the top three teams and the bottom three is the top three have had fewer stretches where they struggled to score. That was our problem in the losses to KU, Cincy, TCU and BYU, we struggled to knock down shots, yesterday that was not our problem overall, sure the guards struggled but we did hit 8 three pointers and shot 70% from the FT line 19 of 27. We won the rebounding battle, and the turnover battle, plus the points of turnovers. We lost because TT was not shooting good but great, 14 three pointers, 58% total for the game.
Sometimes you just have to tip your cap and give the other team credit for playing a great game, especially on the road.
They can't win the title. Final Four maybe if some guys start hitting shots

Especially when they are doing 8 man rotations for 38 mins during 30+ point wins November and December

That's 5D chess from TJ so people can stick to that narrative of that having an impact while other teams with more depth and talent also tend to look tired and rugged this time of year.

In November and December starters were barely at 30 minutes tops in bye games, often about 25 minutes.

I also saw McCasland spazzing on his players. Some coaches can pull that off. Some turn into a Fran hawk team that lost their **** and melted down in every tough moment and faded every time a rough patch hit.

It’s not as simple as lose your **** on the refs but also demand that your players don’t lose it when **** gets rough.
Tech coach corralled the refs early on and lectured them for a long time.

This continues to be brought up.
No one was playing 38 minutes in the buy games, Nelson and Mulder were playing, and other top teams were doing the same thing. The Cyclones weren't tired against Kansas and Houston 2 weeks ago. They also didn't look tired yesterday during the 2 runs when they cut the lead to 6.

The crowd sounded fantastic all game on the TV.
A lot of times there is kind of a lull in the crowd at the start of the 2nd half as people try to get back to their seats. Not the case yesterday . ISU had a near steal about 5 seconds into the 2nd half that got a lot of the crowd instantly back into the game. Crowd was on their feet cheering loudly most of the 2nd half right from the jump.

They didn't look tired at Utah (collectively anyway)...word was Buchanan was sick.

Maybe if he didn't play 20 minutes in a December game he'd stop getting sick in Utah!!!

You could at least take injuries into account for last year. I don't know why people ignore that.

Maybe the Vegas lines aren't built on reality and shouldn't be set as 'as is'.

The back end of the schedule was going to be tough no matter what.

This is a really good team, not truly elite; that's been the case all season.

Of course there are always reasons why things happen. Injuries, sicknesses, backloaded schedules, people gunning for you, inaccurate Vegas lines, etc, etc, etc.

But the fact is we were a #1 seed from the committee who makes the ultimate NCAA Tournament and we likely won’t finish in the top 4 in our own league. Thats disappointing no matter how you want to spin it.

How can it not be disappointing to go from a #1 seed in the country and in less than a week not even be a top 4 team in your league??? Not sure why that isn't obvious to everyone. Doesn't mean we don't support the team 100%.

And there was never anything saying that 1 seed would automatically hold up even if ISU kept winning as other things fell into place.

That seeding preview is quite an excitement generator but imo should be taken as just that.

Having Lipsey at 70% instead of 90-100% is most of it I think.
Is there something going on with him? I mean is he hurt or something? If so what? I knew he had a strained groin back in December.

Must not have worked that well with the refs for him. ISU shot way more free throws

# of free throws and fouls isn't indicative of whether it worked or not.

Watching Blake get hammered going for dunks and layups with no foul call, watching JJ getting hit repeatedly on the arms with no call, watching Tamin get hit in the face with no call and watching Tamin get called for a foul when all he did was move out of the way and the TT guy fell down shows that McCasland working the officials worked.

Whats the point of getting on officials then? Isn't the point of working on officials so you get more calls?

Sorry if this was already discussed, but should Batemon start over Toure? Teams are starting to not guard Toure on the offensive end of the court. Although Toure is an elite defender, playing 4 vs 5 on offense is not helping the team

Batemon obviously can shoot the ball much better than Toure. His defensive play has improved quite a bit this season. I personally think overall the team is better with Batemon seeing more minutes.

What do others think? Should Batemon start over Toure?
I’d start Batemon purely to switch it up and see if Toure responds better. He has struggled tremendously in conference play while Batemon seems to improve. Sure he isn’t as good defensively but he isn’t a total liability either and you absolutely have to guard Batemon on the perimeter, you don’t have to guard to Toure whatsoever he adds absolutely zero on offense.
