Winner.
It works against teams that DON'T spread us out and that AREN'T athletic.
That's why it's a bad matchup against BYU and TT. But heaven forbid we adjust what we do.
But it also seemed to not work against Kansas…then did.

Except when it doesn’t…except when you’re in a single elimination tournament and and you get bounced. Other than that, it’s great!Virginia won a national championship playing this type of defense and had multiple 30 win seasons under Tony Bennett. It works. You're seeing more and more teams playing packline type defense than ever. Arizona plays a lot of it too.
It doesn't help that our starting PG's body is totally broken. I'm surprised we have had this much success given his health. If he doesn't play well we aren't doing anything in March. Veteran teams with good guards are who the ones who have success in the tourney. Lipsey's play will determine how far this team goes.
Win 4 games in 4 days, you serious? Maybe with the double bye, which is gone unless a miracle occurs in Tucson.Boost morale? It was a week ago they beat 2 top 10 teams. Id like to think these guys aren't so emotionally fragile that losing a game ruins their season. Win the Big 12 tourney and they are easily a #2 seed
That's how it works for all defense. It works better than anything else we could run. By far. We are known as a good defensive team because of it. Its not like we have roster full of lockdown defenders. Go ahead and switch to a straight man to man where are guys don't sag and we aren't getting past the 2nd round.Except when it doesn’t…except when you’re in a single elimination tournament and and you get bounced. Lipsey is going to have to play like an all-american for us to make a run.Lipsey played fine today. Didn’t shoot well but did everything else. Toure and Batemon went 1/13 from the field with 2 rebounds (both from Toure) and 1 assist in a combined 41 minutes. It’s nearly impossible for us to beat good teams with stats like that.
Could they win the Big12 tourney, sure. Is it likely, no. There also seems to be a preponderance of posts that suggest that the selection team doesn’t factor in league tournaments for seeding (for the most part), so your logic escapes me.Boost morale? This team has overachieved all year. I don't know why everyone is ready to jump off a ledge because they lost a game. JFC they are in the top 10. The expectations by some here are so ridiculous and unrealistic it isn't even funny. The "anything less than a final four is a disappointment" people are the funniest.Could they win the Big12 tourney, sure. Is it likely, no. Can you name a figurehead that’s won a national championship?
Kansas, Houston, Purdue, St John's aren't competent?I feel like it's effective against really bad teams...any competent team exposes us night in and night out
Maybe I didn’t articulate very well. We run the D we do because we don’t have the athletes to play lock down man to man. It’s the best choice given the circumstances, but it can get exposed and when the offense is hit or miss, you’re definitely going to get exposed and you don’t have the horses to really do anything about it if the other team can athletically create plays. That's how it works for all defense. Must be a lot of incompetent teams and head coaches because last I checked there were only a few teams in the country that had a better w/l record than we do.Kansas, Houston, Purdue, St John's aren't competent?

That's not why we play it. We play it because that's what our coaches want to do. We would be playing that regardless of what athletes we have because our coaches feel like forcing turnover and creating easy buckets is how you win games. I agree with them. It would be even more effective with athletic players. I don't know where you get the idea that we run it because we lack athletes. Wtf are you talking about exposed? We are 24-5. You can't win them all. Exposed my ******* ass. Tech played perfect. Losing a game doesn't mean you've been exposed. Purdue probably should have just dropped basketball all together earlier this year after we exposed them. They didn't though. They managed to keep winning despite being exposed. Everybody all season tried to do what Tech did today. Nothing was exposed. It was the same game plan everyone uses against us.Maybe I didn’t articulate very well. We shot 27 free throws to Tech's 11.What I saw today was one coach who worked the refs, fought for his players and got calls early that set the tone vs. a coach who stands there biting his finger because he thinks it's a weakness to light up refs and fight for his team.
Maybe a coach showing some fight and emotion on the sideline would help like a fire under his players.
And most of Tech’s FTs came from intentional fouls late in the gameWe shot 27 free throws to Tech's 11.
Nobody said get rid of packline, nobody is saying ditch the entire defense. People are suggesting making adjustments, especially against teams that move the ball well and shoot the three. Focus on straight up packline, man to man and reduce trapping.Virginia won a national championship playing this type of defense and had multiple 30 win seasons under Tony Bennett. It works. Cyclone Kamala posted it on X so credit to him or herSuch an outlier kind of number, just crazy....
