*** Official #16 Texas Tech vs #4 IOWA STATE Game(Day) Thread ***

Maybe. But also… so? 2 seed vs 3 seed, I don’t feel like the difference means a whole lot at this point.
I’d much rather be a 2 than 3. It does suck this team had total control of their destiny and could have been a 1 seed but like every TJ team, they pissed down their leg the second next level expectations hit. They do better when expectations get lowered or they’re being overlooked

It would be nice to have a higher ceiling at some point. Recently even teams like NC State, SDSU, Loyola Chicago all had magical runs in the tournament but we can’t even sniff anything past the second weekend.

I don't think you understand what "ceiling" means if that's what you're saying.

We have that ceiling too, this year even. Not every team hits their ceiling in the tournament though. Those teams did, but if you play the tournament 10 times they probably don't repeat that performance in any of them (and if you judged them in late february, you'd probably say their likelihood of doing so is quite low). That's the tournament for ya.

Go cheer for your beloved Hawkeyes and coach McCallum who is the second coming of John Wooden. They are a serious title contender.

Well, at least we’re guaranteed to beat Arizona Monday night.
Yeah that’s what I keep saying is that it’s gonna be hilarious winning against Arizona Monday lol most cyclone thing ever win games when you aren’t expecting it and lose when it should be a win

Are people just automatically assuming we’re gonna lose at Arizona?
I think Zona will have a let down after KU, does not mean ISU wins or comes close to winning, but Zona may look flat for awhile

Its college hoops, fans live and die by each game, either your great or you suck. But based on actuall games teams certainly lack consistency

But I look at UConn today, they eeked it out, but they really struggled at home after blowing out ST Johns.

So hard to say what happens.

They got to 59 with meaningless shots at the end...

What it tells you is they don't get shots off turnovers, when shots are below 60 it means they did not turn the opponent over enough to be successful. Which means their shooting percentage will go down as well with less open looks or drives to the hoop.

Kind of a selffulling prophecy thing.
We won the turnover battle by 8 and points of turnovers also by 8. We shot 16 more free throws and scored more points from the FT line. What killed us today was their making 14 three pointers to our 8, that is an 18 point swing.

Yeah the thing that’s frustrating is we’ve now elevated to a really good team that is consistently top 15 and top 10 ranked. We’re fortunate but now it’s people wanting to break through the next level. I’d love an elite 8 but I just don’t see it happening this year and we’re gonna regress a bit next year if I had to guess

I can relate to this....being ranked this high changes things. It changes how amped our opponents get. It changes the pressure when breakthrough opportunities come up (chances to be ranked #1, #1 seeds, conference championships, etc.). It also changes how we cheer (at least for me). Honestly WAY more pressure game to game than even when TJ started here. Less margin for error, and our team has shown some cracks. Hell, I have too. My dog has learned to swear solely based on how I cheer for Cyclone basketball.

Are any of them great shooters?
Is Mason Williams a great shooter?
As great as Milan is...he can't do it himself every game. Each year TJ seems to get the team a little better offensively. I'm hoping next year will keep trending that direction.

I’m worried Buchanan is gonna get eaten alive by Krivas but I am very excited to watch the Koa Peat vs Jefferson matchup. Find a way to contain Bradley a bit see what happens. Hopefully our guys come out angry as **** after today’s embarrassment

It really boils down to this.....it doesn't matter if we play Ames high school, or the Los Angeles lakers, Iowa state is going to do the same thing no matter what. On both ends, regardless of time and score, That's the philosophy, and there is something to be said for that. But, it makes isu very predictable, tj has even said this publicly. It is what it is.

They still can, anybody can get hot come tournament time but I just don't get expect more than 1 or 2 wins in the big tournament. I liked the team last year quite a bit more but injuries derailed the whole thing which is an Iowa State trademark unfortunately, I'm still not over the Niang injury.

I think some of the responses you are getting is you are choosing to go on the attack against one of (if not THE) best coaches Iowa State has ever had in basketball. Critique and analyze away, but calling him a "figurehead" is an awful take.
Uhhhh…a coach calls plays. Directs players. Makes strategic changes.

There’s no observable evidence TJ does any of that. Watch a timeout.

NC State was horrible going into their tourney then got hot.

All it takes and ISU still has time to turn it around.
Hell UConn their first run came out of nowhere and was up and down durning the year.

At least Mason Williams is not.
