Had some time to reflect on the last week of play by our Sisters. Here are a few thoughts and I hope it generates more questions for discussion.

Unluckily I have a guess and it's not pretty. Loss in game 2 at KC and with a some luck making the sweet 16 and losing there. If we get a bad match up we could easily lose in the opening weekend of the NCAAs.

I hope this prediction is very wrong, but after that OSU loss I'm just kind of depressed where this team is at this time of the yr.

Do you mean first round of NCAA's? Even as a 9 or 10 seed, I could see them being favored in the first round, but they 100% will have a "bad matchup" in game 2 of the weekend (unless host team gets upset in first round).

Sweet 16 would be great. The Audi/Addy teams have never made it that far.

Yeah…the top four seeds in all likelihood are the final four. They are head and shoulders above nearly anyone, although 6-8 are very capable.

A 8-9 seed would require an upset like the one over UConn in the late 90’s. EVERYTHING would have to go right. I want to win game one first of all.

As for the conference tourney…so far the only team we can’t seem to play with is OSU. I’d def take my chances with everyone else.

Both losses to OSU were extremely disappointing. The first loss was mind boggling due to the 4th quarter collapse. If a reward was given for the biggest collapse in conference it would either go to OSU for their collapse against Baylor or ISU for there's against OSU. The second loss against OSU was baffling to me because of the horrible defense especially on Audis part. That's bound to be her worst game on defense this year. There were several times where she simply stood and observed the action and also times where she actually moved aside from the girl driving in and appeared to be focusing on the player on the other side of the paint to keep her from getting a quick pass from the driver. Which of course created a two lane highway to the bucket. That just blew my mind.

To me she didn't seem to be her real self in the game even on offense at times. If she is slightly injured/sore etc it may explain some of that.

Great write and points well taken. What bothered me in the last game was we went to playing hero ball at the end. We did not seem to even try to get the ball to our shooters it was either force it into the post or JW dribbling till she tried to drive to the basket.
Yes - you have a 3 pt wizard in AJ and she does not get a shot in the 4th quarter

NCAA seeding is a real concern. Right now ESPN bracketology has us as a 9 seed against USC then the winner gets #1 Texas in Austin. We're out of chances to get off that 8/9 line probably unless we beat KSU then win the Big 12 tournament that MIGHT get us to a 7 seed but then that gets you a matchup against a tough #2 seed. They are going to have to win the Big 12 tournament for me to have any confidence they can win a game or 2 in the NCAA tournament with the likely seeding and tough path they will have to face. Our defense is not good enough to hang with elite teams and if someone other than Audi and Jada are not stepping up and hitting big shots I fear we aren't going to have much of a postseason run. Just wasted too many opportunities during the regular season to beat teams she should have beat to get a decent seed and avoid having to play tough teams on the first weekend.

In the last 25 years, the Cyclones women have reached the sweet sixteen only 2 times.

Why do we think this year would be anything different? We will be lucky to win one game in the tournament this year the way we play defense and the way the team is coached.

"You do not play hockey for good seasons. You play to win the Stanley Cup. It has to be the objective." Guy Lafleur - Montreal Canadiens (NHL)

In nearly 31 complete seasons at Iowa State, CBF has ZERO stand-alone regular season conference championships. No other basketball coach in NCAA history has remained at the same school for 30 years without an outright conference title.

"We're not here to just win, we're here so we never lose again. Give your balls a tug." Shoresy - Sudbury Blueberry Bulldogs - Northern Ontario Senior Hockey Organization (NOSHO).

The outright conference title doesn't bother me, post season flame outs on the opening weekend do.

Sorry is someone has already spun this theory. Though Audi is a phenomenon, her mobility plants her in the middle, making rotations on the perimeter more exhausting for the rest of the team. Just a theory, but it might explain late game collapses.

Thumps up for a Shoresy quote.

We’re 180 degree opposites then. One of my favorite ISU men’s teams is the 2000-2001 Tinsley / Horton / Rancik squad, which won the Big XII and got upset by Hampton. That loss doesn’t diminish the conference championship one iota for me - wish they’d ended on a higher note but the memories are fantastic!

I flew down to Waco to see the 1999-2000 team clinch our first Big 12 title. Knew it was a rare happening (been watching since Glen Anderson teams in the Old Armory) and didn't want to miss it.

Tournament championships are for bragging rights of teams that can't win the real title. Sometimes some fun games but to me it's just exhibition type entertainment.

Sweet Sixteens and Elite Eights are sort of our basketball programs real barometers. Think those are out of reach for the gals but maybe the guys can get us into the elite Eight with a real shot at the Final Four.

Not to be pedantic, but I'll be pedantic. It's been 3 times in the past 24 years (2009, 2010, 2022). 4 in the past 25, 5 in the past 26.
You could just say "Once in the last 15 years".

And history says it will be a short stay in Kansas City followed by an equally short stay in the NCAAs.

Look at 2 years we made the elite 8. Both squads were a collective group of great players. They weren't built around a singular person.
