DSM area clone fans.

I'm coming into Des Moines next week for a funeral and the family was going to hit a restaurant for a late lunch before heading back home. I haven't been to Des Moines for years. Any recommendations for a casual lunch to reminisce and get a good meal.

Thanks for any guidance.

Gilroy's on 8th in West Des Moines, Cooper's on Fifth in Valley Junction, Tito's Lounge on NW Urbandale, Cool Basil on 86th in Clive if you want Asian food, Waterfront Seafood Market on University in West Des Moines if you want seafood. Club Car in Clive may also be a good choice.

All depends on what type of food you want and how casual you are feeling. :)

I heard somewhere that flying mango just recently got sold. I do love that place. Flying mango isn't open for lunch.

Would love more details on that. Might be my single favorite restaurant in the Des Moines area.

Define NW Des Moines as city of Des Moines and surrounding suburbs are entirely different conversation. If you consider all of the metro then Urbandale Grimes and Johnston are NW. If its Des Moines city limits the Beaverdale area is the NW part of town

Thank you for the recommendations. Flying Mango looks interesting but they don't appear to be open for lunch. It would be an great option since I grew up on 42nd and Hickman along time ago. It was a DeCarlo's pizza when I last was in the area to visit the parents. I'll run with your feedback.

If I'm going BBQ on the north side it's ShortE's BBQ in Johnston10 times out of 10. Smokey D's is good but I also find it a little overrated.

Short Es is good, too, but they also have limited hours. Only open for weekday lunch W-Fri from 11-2 - might not work for a late lunch.
