Dom Nelson - The Defibrillator

Just like every other player that doesn’t play under TJ. They just aren’t good enough. See Watson, Omaha, Nojus, etc.
I agree with you as a rotation player, but I don't think you have read this thread to lean the proper usage of the Defibrillator. 3 minute spurts when the offense is terrible.

After the Ok State game, Nelson has only played meaningful minutes in the Kansas and Cincy losses in which our entire team played poorly. But you're selectively choosing those 2 games to declare he sucks.

I hope you realize you are of negative value to this program. This thread was created to recognize a good performance from a guy who got limited minutes, and you decided to bash him with blanket statements and incorrect stats. If you're going to be a prick, you could at least come correct.
No he isn’t good because he’s not playing. It’s not some conspiracy theory.

I didn’t provide any incorrect stats. Sorry you don’t understand advanced statistics.

Fair. Seems like a moot point as TJ will never do it and probably never has. He sticks to his rotation and that’s a good thing in my opinion.

Whether by choice or by dumb luck, that usage has worked.

And honestly, Tuesday everyone was playing awful (except Lipsey), so Nelson couldn't have made things worse.

Lipsey had 3 TOs (4 Saturday) including the basketball version of a pick 6 for a run out dunk that basically sealed it for TCU.

Everyone was at minimum not sharp Tuesday night.

Perhaps Nelson gets a bucket or two but the moment he falls over on the way to the hoop or something CF would be all over it.

Nelson wasn't the answer against TCU. TCU was doing a great job on defense of pushing our halfcourt offense out and plugging the paint. What would have helped was better ball and player movement.

From a player standpoint, the Clones need production from Heise and Batemon off the bench. It also never helps when a team goes 2-8 from the line.

Yeah, I agree. He might have done poorly, but even if he was, every single time he has entered the game in that situation this yeah, the offense has improved shortly thereafter. Sometimes while he is in or sometimes as soon as he leaves.

In the game at @KU, just his presence at the scorers bench kick started the offense for the rest of the first half.

The 2-8 on free throws against TCU was even worse than it looked because I think quite a few of the six misses were the front-end of 1-and-1's.

Personally I think 1-and-1's are bull****, a foul that prevents a two-point goal should in all cases be either one shot for two points or two shots for one point each, not this "shoot one for half the points and then we'll see" business, but I don't make the rules.

Took the wrong one or bought what we could afford? I have no idea what order they went in.
We'll never know who cost more most likely, but Nelson was the conference player of the year and Toolson was not

I don't think TJ believes in developing transfers. Especially 1 year guys like Nelson. If you aren't ready to play when you come in, thanks for signing up, but there's the door in another 75 days or so. We are seeing it with Mulder right now as well. Paveletzke in years past.

My eyeballs are watching Jefferson playing himself out of All American awards, sadly. Every great team has one guy that when the clock is running down or a bucket is needed to stop a run of poor offense they can hand him the ball to him and let him take over. Now that we are in-conference and playing studs down low every night, right now, we do not have "that guy". Discussing for whatever reason Nelson isn't playing is a waste of time, he had his shot and the staff does not want to give him minutes now that we are in the important time of the season.

This is insane. The dude has two triple doubles in conference play!

Nelson was the WAC player of the year I’m surprised he hasn’t found his way into rotation but he’s also dealt with a groin injury and a concussion. I was at the Purdue game and he looked nice but other than that it’s been kinda meh. His skill set would help make the opposing team defense switch up and maybe free our shooters more

You can get triple doubles without being “the guy” to get a bucket when needed. I would not trust him with the ball in his hands, having to drive to the basket to make a play in crunch time. He just has shown time and time again he will turn it over or get it blocked more often than not in situations like that against remotely competent defenses.

I’m not a huge Nelson guy, but thought at TCU when our offensive guard play was non existent, he may have been worth a try.

Counter points:

1) It’s probably not a great idea to insert a guy who hasn’t played a recent meaningful minute into a pressure situation.

2) We LED that stupid game 55-50 with under 2 min!!! So we didn't need to go to Nelson.

Disaster of last 1:50.

My only small beef with Jefferson is that about 3 or 4 times a game we can ALL see that early shot clock dribble off his knee turnover coming. He’ll have about 4 reasonable opportunities to abort but doesn’t.

I think at TCU he got a steal in first half, took off down the sideline trying to dribble through 3 TCU defenders… everyone on their couch knew it would end in turnover with 25 seconds left on shot clock.

This is asking a lot, he’s been asked to make plays for us.

As our margin for error decreases against better teams, those moments are gonna matter.

Also, getting injured and Batemon and Pleta improving their worth and jumping over him for minutes hasn't helped his cause. I would have possibly tried him against TCU because nothing else was working.
