Dom Nelson - The Defibrillator

Jefferson is definitely being asked to do too much in my opinion. Elite passer but not a great ball handler. We can run the offense through him and has proven that works but we need to put him in spots to be more successful.

Nelson turns the ball over at a higher clip than Jefferson.
You know that stats are readily available?

JJ: 66 TOs in 761 minutes (.087 TO/min)
Nelson: 14 TOs in 167 minutes (.084 TO/min)

Its like half this board just regurgitates blanket statements until it becomes an exaggeration of reality. Nelson has 2 total turnovers in conference play, albeit limited.

i apologize for not reading the whole thread if someone has already said this, but if Dom can get 5-8 minutes a game, his unique offensive style can work as a change up when things are stagnant. even when things are great like at Purdue, he was so different to what we had been doing it put the boilers back on their heels again and sparked another run.

I was wary of his free throw shooting, but no one can make the freebies anymore so who cares? Give Dom some run.

The worry from his stat line at Utah Valley was always "can't shoot threes or free throws well" but I was really hoping for more from the WAC Player of the Year.

That moment when you realize TJ took the wrong Utah Valley State transfer

Yeah ISU really needs someone to hit like 3 FTs a game and score in double digits occasionally while not shooting well.

Who else is out there that ISU should get based on one or two games?

Nelson has a higher turnover percentage than Jefferson bud.

It was mostly tongue in cheek that I brought it up. I didn't realize they came from the same place until I looked him up the other night as he was going off on us

I don't have time to teach you how math works, bud.
CyCity I think is referring to the "Turnover Rate" statistic, which is the fraction of a player's possessions used that end in a turnover. Nelson's is indeed a little higher than Jefferson's (19.6% vs. 17.8% on kenpom). Whether 1.7% of possessions difference or 0.003 TO/min difference are meaningful, and whether turnovers "per possession" or "per minute" are more important, I'll leave those debates to others.

All you need to understand is that Nelson is our least efficient offensive player and he uses the 2nd highest percentage of possessions on the team in the minutes he plays. If you are bad you should be bad as little as possible, not as much as possible. Would've been nice if he worked out but it was always a long shot with his profile. He was an emergency add late in the game due to an injury

But he was good against Oklahoma State over a month ago!

Yep, he was. And we needed it that day.

I'm sure you'll have a fun little quippy douchey smartass remark to fans who have very common fan opinions but I'm just thankful that he was put in the game and he made a really great impact that day!
Well first off the Oklahoma State thing is a joke because one man apparently thinks that was his last meaningful minutes when it wasn’t.

If pointing out the coaches know more than the common fan makes me a douchey smartass I’ll wear that like a badge of honor.

After the Ok State game, Nelson has only played meaningful minutes in the Kansas and Cincy losses in which our entire team played poorly. But you're selectively choosing those 2 games to declare he sucks.

I hope you realize you are of negative value to this program. This thread was created to recognize a good performance from a guy who got limited minutes, and you decided to bash him with blanket statements and incorrect stats. If you're going to be a prick, you could at least come correct.
