Iowa State Transfer Tracker 2025

I hope Pleta gets better as the season progresses and he becomes more comfortable in ISU's defensive system.

I haven't seen enough of other Big12 teams and their post players. But if Pleta and Mulder are lacking, then we could see the Clones go small with Jefferson and Momcilovic playing the 2 post spots. There is depth/size to go with Lipsey, Toure, Heise, Batemon or Nelson in a 3 guard lineup.

Arizona definitely has a couple tall/physical posts that would give Buchanon & Jefferson a handful. But a smaller front court would match-up fine against KU & TT.
BYU has posts that will be a handful as well.

What have you seen from Mulder that makes you feel better about him so far?
Nothing to write home about yet either way, although he's got some bounce and quickness about him that neither big demonstrated last year. I think he's going to be all hard work and determination, anything we get from him offensively will be a bonus. Can't remember which of the 4 games it was, maybe Grambling, he had a sweet put back dunk. I recall thinking to myself at the time that it's been awhile since we've seen a player do that in an Iowa State jersey.

I don't think he's got any sort of back to the basket game with post moves etc. But if he is adequate defensively and on the glass, he'll end up a solid 1 year guy imo.

I don't have a beef with Mulder. My original comments were towards the person that said they would trade any of our guys playing for our bigs last year. I was just thinking that Chatfield was ahead of what we have seen so far with Mulder and Pleta, although Pleta especially looks to have more upside. Neither of them is the physical presence in the pain that Chatfield was.

Jelani Hamilton is having a really good season at Georgia State. I believe that he is showing enough potential to be a substantial contributor at a high major school in 26-27.
I kind of wonder if the deal with him was more he wanted to play closer to home versus TJ showing him the door.

I know he’s only a sophomore, but he’s really not having a good season on a bad PITT team. 37% FG. 35% from 3-point. 55% free throws.

I still say we need to try our damndest keep some of these guys as development/depth pieces (much easier said than done).

Hamilton would have been extremely helpful guard off the bench last year and potential starter this year.

He'd at least have a Heise level of playing time one would think

The thing is, guys need playing time to develop and of course they want to play important roles too. He redshirted because he wasn’t ready to be a major contributor on a top 10 team, then we were returning Tamin/Keshon/Curtis/Milan so he knew his role the next season was going to be pretty limited.

He got a chance to drop a level, start and be the man. It’s working out great for him. Hell maybe a return is possible even given his family connections to Iowa State and the fact that I’m sure he left on good terms.

And IMO the gap will only get bigger over the years
