*** Official #2 IOWA STATE vs Cincinnati Game(Day) Thread ***

Cinci only needs to move 11 spots for this to be a Q1 loss. If they keep playing like this, they should easily get there.
Big IF, on the keep playing like they did today. (as announcers said, we have a target and get best shots. It appears we weren't prepared for that).

ISU looks right now like the group did in November '23.

Hopefully there's some upper trajectory from here on out.

This was my thought watching this game. TJ says he wants Milan to take 10 3pt shots a game, but our offense seems to be focused on get it to Jefferson and let him dribble until he turns it over, misses a layup or gets fouled. Even if the first pass is to JJ, his first look should be out to Milan. There are so many trips down the court where it doesn’t even look like we have a real offensive plan. The D wasn’t good today, but it’s our lack offense and the turnovers that are killing us.
There was a couple of times jj could've kicked to Milan as defenders were collapsing on him. Milan looked so open I zoned on him thinking the ball will be coming

People need to stop with the “16 games is no fluke” crap.

Be real, 7 of those games were low major hot garbage.

Yes 9-2 is still good against P5. But that 16 is a little deceiving.

With 3 starters and a 6th man returning, that’s about as much continuity as you can expect in the current era of college basketball. So you’d expect this team to be good out of the gates and other teams closing that gap as the season goes on. We are probably seeing this a bit as well.

Watching UCF Arizona and I am very concerned that UCF is gonna absolutely wreck us Tuesday. They’re big and athletic and just dogs on the boards

He’s a ball hog and just cares about patting stats, he also just forces things and seems to give up when it isn’t going his way. He is so mentally weak it’s crazy.
Well, no one else can create any offense outside of maybe Nelson. Milan is catch and score, Tamin isn’t playing well, Toure and Heise are pretty much non-factors on offense, Batemon is mostly catch and score. Nelson can get into the lane but forces drives.

We don’t have a good team offense, never have. Just leaning on guys making tough shots and otherwise score off turnovers.

They are playing through Jefferson and asking him to make plays because there isn’t a good alternative right now.

Purdue might be the only non big 12 team we beat that will be in the tournament. We haven’t really proven much yet.

lmao. Might be the worst take on here today. Iowa and st johns bith making trny. And creigton and cuse will be close ti bubble. Likely outside. Looking in, but in the cincersation

Need to schedule an emergency psych consult for Buchanan. Hypnotize him or something to get him in the mindset of mixing it up in the paint. The fetal position thing isn't working...

Tamin just

Watch the game.
We looked like **** against KU
Now look like **** against Cin.
If you dont see an issue with the way we are playing and cant see where that leads, please stop drinking now
I see a larger sample size than 2 games to judge a team. Their body of work is still 2nd weekend

We play that kind of schedule most years..mand dont usually go 16-0 against that schedule.

@cyclonestunners Syracuse isn’t a bubble team right now they just aren’t. 70 KenPom 63 Net. That’s not bubble as of right now. They are not first four out, next four out, and are a ways from that.

Lots of season to go, but they have to leapfrog 15+ teams to get an at large.

For sure. But it is a trend. I'm stealing this from the 247 board, but.....

Last year we lost 4 of 6 starting on Jan 18th
In 2024, we lost 2 of the first 4 in January
In 2023, we lost 6 of 9 starting January 14th
In 2022, we lost 9 of 12 starting January 1st

I think we are a better team than the previous few years. But we've got to figure out a way to not fall apart in January.

Good pull. That cannot be a coincidence.

Arizona walked into UCF and punched UCF in the mouth, that’s what good teams do, unlike us because we are not a good team

That will be the next thing we are told “it’s hard to win on the road”. It is…but not for top teams.

Brend has been exactly right - if you want to be in the running for a conference title, you win on the road. You certainly don’t lose the a bottom feeder like we just did. Looks like another top 4-6 place finish, a good seed in the tournament, and then we roll the dice. Doesn’t look like we are capable of taking that next step.

Get out the aluminum pole…it’s Festivious

Box says JJ had 3 turnovers…no way that’s right. Jefferson can’t be handling the ball, can’t finish at the rim, and looks tired/ disinterested.

Toure is a complete non factor on O. Which allows a lot of help D from his man. And his D isn’t as effective as it was earlier. Good news is he’s not going anywhere next year. (Try to see the positives).

Milan obviously is…leaving after this year and our only bright spot.

I’m worried Buchanan is showing us why UVA fans didn’t seem to care that he left. He’s either in a hell of a slump mentally or he’s only good against marginal talent.

Lipsey is hurt imho…like always, which is incredibly sad for such a great kid & special player. He probably should have taken the extra million from UNC because there’s no way he can make it through any professional season unscathed. Sadly, he’s our Elijah Glass.

Heise at least seems to hustle and care. Production isn’t there though…4pts and 0 boards.

Plata, Nelson, & Bateman gave us 1 point, 2 boards, 2 turnovers, 0 assists or steals in 24+/- minutes.

The D looks to be slacking…or people have figured it out…I think it’s the latter.

The O is completely nonexistent & we struggle to get open shots, people open, or penetration…and when we do we murder those bunnies like Lennie in Of Mice and Men.

Other than that…everything looks ******* great!

Anyone got any hobby suggestions?

ISU won't take the next step until there are some adjustments to the offensive and defensive philosophy for conference play.
