*** Official #2 IOWA STATE vs Cincinnati Game(Day) Thread ***

Cinci did a remarkable job of passing out of doubles, and their threes went down at an unprecedented rate. Add to that we turned the ball over at an impressive rate, and it's amazing that we were within nine.
Our doubles were super lazy today, and we made it easy to pass out of those doubles. Give them that many easy open shots and we are gonna get killed every game.

Turnovers are a huge concern. If guys are sloppy bench them.

TJ benched Milan early to wake him up offensively and it worked. Maybe bench some of the other guys that don’t have their heads on right.

When can I be frustrated? 3 losses? 6 losses? More?
Sincerely. Am I bad fan for being frustrated about how we've played for a month?

Heck, be frustrated. I certainly am. But a number of fans here calling this season a wash and our team mediocre is mind boggling. And nobody called you a bad fan. But it's still TWO games we've lost.

I wonder if we need to start games by not employing our trapping defense. Just play hard-nosed straight up man, create turnovers with good position and quick hands, and get to the rim on offense…and the once we have them down, we can shift into our trapping defense. The bad thing about the trapping defense is it’s soft against the three. If teams are tight or lack confidence, it’s not much of a. Issue, but when you play a Big 12 team on their home floor, they are assuming they are going to make their shots…at least to start. If they start hitting their threes…and we don’t..:we’re down 8-10 in no time.
can anyone think of a sport where you can be successful doing the same thing all the time? If every screen is switched the offense knows how to get a favorable matchup. Milan should rarely switch onto a guard. We need LE to consult on the defensive plan. Dude new how to slow down the other teams big 3

I think the frustration (on my end at least) is the no offensive identity, sloppy ball handling, missed free throws and lack of rebounding.

Also two games in a row we gave up wide open 3’s

One of the things I have been super impressed with this year is that it didn't seem like we were a team that had to play a certain way in order to win. It seemed like we were a lot less limited than the teams from a few years ago.

And I think we still are. But that doesn't mean that adjustments shouldn't be made.

Until you get less predictable on both ends, get more creative offensively with some off ball screens and movement. This is what it's going to be. Iowa state is a really easy scout for a conference team because we do the same thing defensively and hope to god the other team wets themselves on the trap, and we just run a few Spain sets offensively. It is what it is, it's not going to change.

For sure. But it is a trend. I'm stealing this from the 247 board, but.....

Last year we lost 4 of 6 starting on Jan 18th
In 2024, we lost 2 of the first 4 in January
In 2023, we lost 6 of 9 starting January 14th
In 2022, we lost 9 of 12 starting January 1st

I think we are a better team than the previous few years. But we've got to figure out a way to not fall apart in January.

Full agreement. Need to adjust on D, and find an offensive flow. Too much one-on-one basketball which resulted in our getting our pocket picked, and our thread the needle passes deflected.
