Williams & Blum: Massive week looms for men’s hoops; How good can football be?

Yes, people are very good at remembering only snippets of specific teams, usually biased by the team's postseason results.

A few notable games from the 1999/2000 team:
- Losing at Drake in the second game of the season
- Winning at Nebraska by just 1 (Nebraska finished the season 11-19)
- Winning against Texas A&M at home by just 7 (A&M finished the season 8-20)
- Losing at Colorado by 12 (to be fair, playing at elevation is tough, but Colorado also wasn't an NCAA tournament team)
- Winning at Texas Tech by just 8 (Texas Tech finished the season 12-16, 3-13 in the Big 12)

None of this is to say that the 99/00 team wasn't great; just that they had games where they underperformed and weren't dominant, similar to this team and every team, no matter how good.
I was at that Nebraska game in Lincoln; the ending was epic. The fans there were so angry.

Edit: it was 01 not 2000.

Dog-walked? Hardly.

7 wins by 10 or less, including:
1-point win at NU (4-12/11-19)
7-point home win against A&M (4-12/8-20)
8-point win at Tech (3-13/12-16)

3 other wins by 11 or 12, one of which was at K-State (2-14/9-19)

Even the 22-point home win over Nebraska required a 25-2 run in the 2nd half to break it open.
They also only lost 2 both in overtime. Oklahoma and I think Colorado.

Hang in there Chris. I appreciate everything you do. CF and Iowa Everywhere are a true blessing.
I also appreciate everything CW does with CF and Iowa Everywhere... it is wonderful information and very entertaining as well.

But I'm always honest about everything... to a fault I admit. CW is great at what he does.... no question.

But you weren't honest. I wasn't even close to having a tear in my eye. You totally blew the entire conversation out of proportion.

How about shut the f up about Matt Campbell, I could give two f's what he does from here on out. GET. OVER. IT. Simp behavior in the extreme.

I think CJR has some of the same moxie in him as the Chicago Bears new coach, that guy is a classic red-ass, that's EXACTLY what ISU needs for a head football coach right now. I like how quickly he's put together, on paper at least, a respectable P4 football team on such short notice. Impressive.

you sure seemed like you were getting a little emotional again. totally normal btw... you knew these people... and were close friends with many of them. It's obviously going to be tougher for you than the average fan for sure. I'm just saying we all need to move on now... Matt CHOSE to leave us.... that's on him. And good for him btw if that's what he wanted... it's a free country.

And I don't agree with you when you said you knew it all was coming... you sure seemed surprised back when it happened. None of the coaches even knew what was going on that day. Maybe I'm wrong.... you knew, but guys like Heacock and Mouser didn't? It's not a big deal though... it's over with... doesn't really matter.

And the shotgunning a beer thing is mainly just giving you s**t. Everyone knew what you meant... but he didn't shotgun a beer. Lighten up... none of this is that important. Meaningless sports stuff.

That isn't what I meant about "knew it was coming." You either chose to take that out of context or misunderstood.

I meant when Matt DID leave, I knew the mass exodus would follow. Not that I knew he was leaving. That caught me off guard. First heard rumblings Thursday AM.

And I know you probably won't believe it, but assistant coaches and players families were calling me for information all day Thursday. Three people in Matt's circle had any clue what was happening. He hadn't contacted anybody else on the staff or on the roster.

He doesn't know Rogers at all. Probably has never spoken to him. I'm guessing Rogers will do the media rounds at some point after the transfer window settles down. He's been busy with more important things, as has the whole staff.
What if someone else formed a quick friendship with Rogers and got exclusive inside info and they started a new fan message board? That'd be wild. (Joking of course)

Not saying anything new, but not expecting any Rogers content until the portal season is over. Give him some space to build his team.

He did have a good interview on the coaches’ show, if you search for the CyCast.

I did like Chris’s tidbit about how Campbell ruined spring ball for them (as a fan, wholeheartedly agree). Hopefully Rogers embraces it more and CF can get some better content.

Misunderstood what you meant on that. Sounded like you were saying you knew Matt was leaving.... which I know at the time you said you didn't. Thanks for clarifying.

Glad you are going all in on the Rogers era... and like you said today... you are a Cyclone and always will be... you are not a Matt Cambell... you're a Cyclone. Coaches and players will come and go.... now more than ever before.... but Iowa State University will hopefully always be here!!

A spring game this year would be incredible. If they want to get rid of it again after that, fine, but it would be by far the most anticipated, and I suspect well attended spring game we've ever had.

I'll be surprised if Rogers embraces spring ball for the fans any more than what Matt did... but we can all hope!

Looks like Wazzu had an attended live practice followed by a Crimson and Grey showcase which amounts to a glorified scrimmage this last spring

Honestly I never really cared if it was just a glorified scrimmage. Just an opportunity for the fans to see some of the new guys and get a taste of football.

Never really understood Campbell’s aversion to it.
