Williams & Blum: Massive week looms for men’s hoops; How good can football be?

"this Campbell"
"this Oztelberger"

Never heard or seen anyone refer to those two in that manner.
He doesn't know Rogers at all. Probably has never spoken to him. I'm guessing Rogers will do the media rounds at some point after the transfer window settles down. He's been busy with more important things, as has the whole staff.

Go check out other teams' starters' minutes from early season games and you'll find the minutes to be very similar. And ISU's players' minutes are much more spread out to not really accumulate that much.

Are you saying ISU should have rested their starters the last three games? They had decent leads but the games were clearly not over since it just takes a couple of possessions to make things interesting.
I'll tend to agree. Sometimes I wish the guys would get more rest in November and December but Jefferson is the only guy in the top 20 in minutes played in the Big 12 this year and he's 19th.

The 99-00 team had quite a few games that were close until they closed them out or pulled away in the 2nd half.

CF would be all over the 'no effort, they don't care, what happened to the team from December' narrative if it were around then.
Yes, people are very good at remembering only snippets of specific teams, usually biased by the team's postseason results.

A few notable games from the 1999/2000 team:
- Losing at Drake in the second game of the season
- Winning at Nebraska by just 1 (Nebraska finished the season 11-19)
- Winning against Texas A&M at home by just 7 (A&M finished the season 8-20)
- Losing at Colorado by 12 (to be fair, playing at elevation is tough, but Colorado also wasn't an NCAA tournament team)
- Winning at Texas Tech by just 8 (Texas Tech finished the season 12-16, 3-13 in the Big 12)

None of this is to say that the 99/00 team wasn't great; just that they had games where they underperformed and weren't dominant, similar to this team and every team, no matter how good.

This is a good list but I'm not sure if I'd even say it was underperformance (except for Drake but the story goes that Larry told Tinsley it would be the hardest game he'd ever play so it was a lesson in there somewhere) as much as it is just how a basketball season goes.

They also gave up a 20 point lead in the first round and had to make free throws down the stretch and were back and forth and behind Auburn for much of the game before basically wearing them out.

In the 'Mihm dunk' game, they were behind by double digits for a lot of the 1st half before changing the tide and getting a small lead at half.

Fizer had like 17 at half...can you imagine a CF game thread with a lot of 'why is Nurse even out there? Does he even care?' type of posts?

I’m glad the guys brought up that they weren’t impressed with how ISU played this past week because I felt that way too. I encourage everyone to enjoy the season without putting a huge goal out there - something I am trying to do. With Fizer, Tinsely, Shirley etc I thought they would win every game they played I was so confident in them. I don’t feel that way with these guys yet, I know it sounds crazy!
I want these guys healthy for March, not fatigued and burnt out, but to still play with a fire in their bellies because that’s when they look unbeatable.
"They lost to Drake" is common contrarianism that gets brought up...yes they did, but then they dog-walked the Big 12 for the rest of the year! If I'm honest though, the Big 12 wasn't all that good in those years. Good at the top but some mid-to-bad teams elsewhere.

I don't know you either and you will never see me refer to you as "this Letterkenny".

And I'm sure Mr. Rogers, Jimmy Rogers or better yet..............Coach Rogers is very busy. See how easy that was?

I don't talk like that either, but Williams does all the time. Might be a southwest Iowa thing.

Since this seems to be a thread for constructive criticism for Chris, can we make it a New Year's resolution to stop taking one comment from one burner on X and applying it to the entire fanbase? No rational fan thinks that the officiating in the Baylor-ISU game was the "worst game every officiated". No one.

Getting two comments on your social media post is a terrible representation of the ISU fan base and its annoying when 99.9% of fans get lumped in with the crazies...

It's definitely just imitating the way country bumpkins talk about well known famous people as if no one has ever heard of them.

"You know, this LeBron James is pretty darn good at basketball."

CW does it all the time.

Dog-walked? Hardly.

7 wins by 10 or less, including:
1-point win at NU (4-12/11-19)
7-point home win against A&M (4-12/8-20)
8-point win at Tech (3-13/12-16)

3 other wins by 11 or 12, one of which was at K-State (2-14/9-19)

Even the 22-point home win over Nebraska required a 25-2 run in the 2nd half to break it open.

Minor room for improvement; I'm hoping we can start a game without giving the opposing team wide open three's and/or layups. Feels like we're spotting opponents 6-8 points in the first couple minutes.

Can't do that with some of the teams on our schedule and likely Kansas.
I think some of the early wide-open 3s is a function of how the blitz defense works. Teams know it's coming and where the ball needs to go, but it's a tough pass to execute over and over they never a get a "normal" possession. They're gonna make it a couple times early while fresh and we live with it because the live ball turnovers are valuable and wearing them down over the course of the game becomes even more valuable.

That said Oklahoma St had it game planned better than maybe any team this season and I wonder if we could be a little less predictable with it

At the relative same point in the season this team has a more impressive resume than the 2000 team. The Purdue win is better than anything the 2000 team accomplished. There is still a lot of season left so I'm reserving judgement but as of now this team looks like the better team and I'm not sure it's really that close.

Btw... CW's eyes watering up again and voice crackling a little bit when talking about CMC, Mouser, and some of the players that left again today in the Two Guys podcast. C'mon CW... move on already... they're gone.

And no... you did not "know this was coming" when CMC left. Go back and watch the day or two leading up to it... you were shocked.

Also CW... you need to learn what "shotgunning" a beer is.... Mouser does not shotgun a beer in the video of him and CMC at the PSU hockey game. He slams one... but does not shotgun one.

Just giving CW some crap... but honestly... time to move on. CMC left ALL of us, you too buddy... get over it.

That absolutely is not what happened on the podcast.
