So we can't question Pollard on here anymore?

Just not an area I have much experience in. I just want some fresh ideas and approaches with a new landscape. If JP is that person, then great! He's proven he can take us to new heights and deserves all the credit for doing so. However, if we are just going to keep trying to do the same thing over and over again with the same results, then I think it's fair to ask questions.

So to paraphrase your first sentence. "I like to complain repeatedly about things that I am ignorant about". Sorry to be crass, but if that was your first post on the topic your first sentence might be passable.

So what's your basis for saying Jamie Pollard is just doing the status quo? Your argument is based on a false premise. And there are enough people posting on this board who are Hawkeye's posing as Cyclone that are willing to stir the pot.

JP is a strong enough leader that he had a reserve fund to pay for an unforeseen contingency. Do you think the U of I has a reserve fund? Nope, they are begging for Private Equity to bail them out and their Big10 brethren. AND THE BIG 10 IS ONLY 2 YEARS INTO THEIR RECORD SETTING MEDIA DEAL AND THEY ALREADY SPENT IT.

Fair enough. I won't argue that I'm not assuming a lot with no inside info. I just see some alarming things happen, see/hear connected people say things, and I put the pieces together. I have other observations which also give me some concern. That being said, I'm not arguing that I'm right or know more than anyone else.

I just want what is best for our athletic department as a whole. It is a different world today than it was 10 years ago.

Nothing like the first time buying that. Give them $30 for caramel popcorn and month later they return with a tin that may hold 2 cup fulls.
That’s what it had devolved into when my younger kids had to sell it. When my oldest was hocking it, I think you could get a pretty big plastic (just to make sure you are getting your minimum daily plastic requirements) canister with a blender Cy on it for $10.00.

There was a kinda hidden bathroom on the east side, lower floor of the MU most people didn't know about back in the day.

Maybe its a good thing we aren't going over the cap. No idea how this will play out in court but Pollard may have unintentionally saved us from a mess.

Iowa State isn't alone in trying to stay under the cap. I believe (our favorite) Bud Elliot has said Florida State is too.

The concept at play here is, without clear rules, they can't punish all of us. But it is pretty obvious that in-house NIL shops are a problem. Just remember for all the bluster about it, they haven't made an example of anyone yet.

And they're never going to because any punishment gets thrown out by the courts immediately.

The only thing that changed is that the billable hours tab got huge.

I don’t know that I’d say it’s a "good thing" we're not actively pushing this NIL outside the revenue share, but I can see the point being made. If we're doing this in a way that is clearly compliant, I honestly don't see significant risk in doing so.

As any reasonable person expected, there are already schools pushing boundaries. And it's almost certainly the usual suspects. Zero surprise that LSU is already at the center of this latest controversy.

If anything - these kids and their “agents” are largely amateurs and don't realize it. If they're making major life decisions (and financial ones) they ought to strongly consider how certain/uncertain these deals are.

What's hilarious to me is that these deals aren't supposed to be used as a recruiting inducement. Putting a contract like this in front of a player not already committed to the program seems like the most obvious of violations in that regard.

Probably the best thing that a program like ISU could see happen is for these deals fail to materialize and/or the clearinghouse start to spike some. Just like schools had reputations for having "bag men", schools will start to get reputations for over promising and under delivering. Again, this is optimistic, but possible.
