So we can't question Pollard on here anymore?

Agree from the Campbell side, but players deserved to have this meeting. Not all of them left remember, and even if they did, doesn’t take away their efforts as a Cyclone. Sometimes it’s ok to take the high road and I think players at least needed the face to face.
Screw that... Matt chose to walk out on these players, not the other way around. Let's not forget that. Sure, the players cared about him, but he screwed them over and left them... he quit on them.

That night he came back to talk to them one last time... I think it would have been funny if the doors were locked and his key card didn't work anymore.

Everyone always talks about what Matt has done for ISU.... what about what ISU did for Matt? Made him wealthy beyond his imagination... and basically JP made all the facility improvements he wanted while he was here. Without JP doing all those improvements.... Matt likely doesn't win as much as he did at ISU, and never becomes a coach that is wanted by anyone.

But... in the end... none of it was enough for what Matt ultimately wanted... so he quit.... and walked out on all those players and left their lives in limbo. Not only that... but he did that to some of the kids that he literally committed to the day or two before he quit on them. But that's JP's fault? F that!

I don't personally wish anything bad to Matt or all these players that are leaving... that's evil... but I don't have to cheer for them either... they aren't Cyclones anymore... so I just don't give a s**t about them. If they go on to have success elsewhere... good for them.... but if they fail.... I won't shed a tear at all.

Both can be correct, appears to have been a bit of a **** measuring contest between JP and Matt. Players caught in middle. Wait a day as the adult in the room and let the players have some time to consume this. Just my opinion though.
Agree. And for what it’s worth, I think JP comes out ahead if he waits 48 hours to announce the new hire. I just feel that “Look how quick I responded” beats “I already had somebody hired.” Water under the bridge now.

Epic butthurt - impressive.

My problem with what MC did is that sure, take some players and recruits, but no... he had to go as far as taking the bandhauer kid with him (idk if that is spelled right) and took all of the top recruits we had besides jeffrey roberts

I just don't think ethically in the transfer portal age you have any obligation to wait if you already know which guy you're hiring. It's already late in the cycle and you're putting another university on hold from doing anything just so that people in Ames have time to process? That doesn't make a while lot of sense.

The portal needs to be moved back closer to the end of spring semester so these crisis plays no longer need to happen.

The players he’s not taking. He basically told everyone he wasn’t paying them what they were worth, why are the players fine with that. You know he’s blaming JP on that one. He definitely wasn’t Mr ISU when he came back. He came back to grab more and turn the players, the helping with Evaluation was a farce.

So you'll be cheering for Matt, and all the players and coaches that go with him to PSU?

If so... great... go be a Penn State Nittany Lion fan then... who cares? I'm a Cyclone fan. Always have been, and always will be. I don't care how Penn State does, or their coaches and players. Why would I?

You get way to butthurt way to often.

I was just thinking this watching some of the playoff games. Ethics. Most professions have them as a shared understanding of how an industry works. If someone is "unethical" it is deemed a big scar on you professionaly and can be hard to recover from.

Wouldn't it be neat to create ethical standards for college football and basketball coaches/admins/players? I'd imagine LOTS of "unethical" things happening, lol.

I say that as the terms "commitment" comes up a lot....like if you recruited a kid a year ago when he had other options and chose you, but now you don't choose him back when you leave? Lots of examples.

So who cares about the players? Some of which we’ll be hitting up for donations in the future and make up your alumni base? I get it, Campbell screwed us and them over. Whoygokng to be the adult in the room and at least consider those players that put in all the hard work and were blind sided.

Nope, I won't. But it would be childish to lock him out of the facility and also cruel to the players to not give them the opportunity to hear it from the coach the have played for.

Also, the number of coaches who coach for decades at one school is low. To expect that from every coach who coaches at ISU is unrealistic.

Also: He leaves Toledo to coach at ISU and he is a great coach; he leaves ISU and suddenly he is disloyal and I hate him. Not a lot of difference. He left a school for a better job after giving the school some of the best years they have had.

I'm not happy about it but I'm going to look at it with a little perspective.

Don’t care about Matt, but the players, for sure. Why wouldn’t you? Loyal Sons Forever True is BS for the fans. They are loyal to their coach, and I probably would be too. It’s over, take the high road(I know it sucks sometimes) and move on.

Guarantee in 20 years we’ll be hearing from Matt about “how he should have stayed at Iowa State”. He made his choice. Time for us to move on.

You can be a MC fan, and a fan of the players who played here, and still cheer first and foremost for Iowa State. I have no problem cheering for Penn State because of MC and knowing MC is one of the best things to have ever happened at Iowa State, but I will never cheer for Penn State when it come to them competing with Iowa State, which most likely will rarely happen. Its the same way that I will cheer for the Chiefs and Mizzou because my finance is a fan of both of those teams, while I am a fan first of the Bears and Iowa State.

The MC and players leaving hate around here is odd.

I would love to have heard what that message was like. I think when you get the exodus like we had it certainly had to have the theme that you were talking about. Lots of guys in the portal that are it going to land in better positions.

Having been in one of those last meetings before the coach leaves for another school sucks, but I’m glad it happened vs the alternative.
Announcing “New Dad” that quick doesn’t give players much time to process anything.

What is done is done. Let’s go CJFR!

I will never cheer for an institution that covered up the rape of children at their football facilities. I don’t care who they hire.

It just seems a little inauthentic when they're all holding hands singing the fight song at the end of games under Campbell, and then they bail and enter the transfer portal lol

Adding to that, Eaton hated collegiate athletics at ISU and probably sent us down the wrong path for a period of time. Fortunately, he moved on. He often sided with the pro -Iowa, Marvin Pomerantz at the Iowa BOR, on many issues that were less than favorable towards ISU. Eaton was myopic. We fortunately recovered. Prior to Eaton, Hilton and Parks were two back to back, incredible leaders for ISU. They provided 25 plus consecutive years of incredible vision. It all starts at the top.
I have posted multiple times that Gordon P. Eaton is the main culprit behind ISU sucking at football for a generation. He looked down his nose at athletics as foolish and unimportant right at the moment ESPN came on the scene and made college athletics 20x more important.

Horrifically bad strategic decision.

Yes, ISU having more success at athletics now has more to do with the environment surrounding it / administrative competence rather than a singular coach imo (you need a good coach too, but that's only one ingredient)
