So we can't question Pollard on here anymore?

Where did I tear him down? I want him to explain his NIL methods and uses publicly. We got a speech with no questions. That isn't enough and he's a state employee, not above reproach. Never said I wanted to be AD, but I'm sure there are lots of people in line. We just lost a program-building coach. We don't want to lose another. We're not "poor little Iowa State". We have the resources to compete. We've done it. We need to be smarter than the big SEC schools but we've shown we can do it. He's not the only person on earth who can lead our athletic department.
Who exactly has done it?

We are poor even amongst our peers.

I am certain ISU could win a national title in every major sport next year and there would be a thread immediately started wanting to know how many more titles we could have won if we had better admin/coaches.

And 'If TJ hadn't run off X player who couldn't or wouldn't defend or Y player who wasn't that good and is actually doing worse at their new school!'.

The popular definition of the Dunning-Kruger effect, Dunning explains, is that “people who are incompetent or unskilled or not expert in a field lack expertise to recognize that they lack expertise. So they come to conclusions, decisions, opinions that they think are just fine when they’re, well, wrong.”

Not a Pollard bootlicker, but I do realize the obvious: Jamie Pollard is the greatest AD in the history of Iowa State University.

I don't even want to think where ISU would be right now if he hadn't been here the last 20 years.
Without a doubt he has been, but he just like any other public figure is not above reproach. His refusal to sell alcohol when we need all the money we can bring in is beyond silly, and IF the rumors are true about him wanting total control of NIL that needs to be solved. Look at how other schools are doing it, and do the same thing. The new president needs to talk to the coaches and even reach out to Campbell and find out how much this NIL deal led into him leaving the university, talk to other schools to see how they are handling it. Once the new guy has all the info, he takes it to Pollard and tells him this is what we are going to do.

Brent walked a lot back a few weeks ago, but not everything. If Pollard is behind the times on NIL to the point that other coaches want out, serious conversations need to be had.
I think a lot of people are confusing NIL and Revenue Sharing.

It does sound like Jamie is not being very helpful to athletes seeking NIL money such as not letting them use the I-STATE logo and connecting them to those opportunities.

On the flipside, we are deep in the hole to get revenue sharing fully funded, Jamie thinks we need those NIL dollars to go to the AD so we can fund our Revenue sharing.

Enlighten us as to what it means to be "behind the times" in regards to name, image, and likeness?
Are most schools not doing what they can to help donors give NIL money directly to players while ISU is only focused on funding revenue sharing?

I get that ISU is in a different spot since we didn't have huge donors. But I do feel like we leave a lot on the table and are not turning over every stone.

I agree with Jamie on the NIL stuff, and I believe it's more important and responsible to fund the AD.

The other criticism I thought of is the rumored anti-"Farmageddon" stance which I don't understand (other than being insecure or thinking that gives ISU branding that we're a bunch of hicks), but that's not something worth moving on from an AD over.

I'd say the fanbase is like 10% each blindly anti- or blindly pro-Pollard. Yet all these stupid threads come out and the blindly anti-Pollard people think everybody is blindly pro-Pollard, and vice versa.

I'm sure Pollard could spend even more time talking through the specifics of how the NIL works, but frankly, that's probably bad business. There are donors that like the idea of some small portion going to WBB or Wrestling. You want Pollard to come out and say, "don't worry, those sports only get what gets specified by donors for those sports, and all our truly discretionary AD money goes to MBB and FB."

How do you think general donors that just donate to the AD without specifying a sport but that like the idea of a small portion of their money going to things like WBB or wrestling will react to that? Donate more? Probably not. Donate and specify that their donations are for WBB or wrestling? That will really help FB and MBB. Laying out all the details, fine print and asterisks of how this works is probably more negative than positive for FB and MBB. The upside is what? So dumbass fans on message boards can hear it from the horse's mouth that every possible dollar is going to FB and MBB, when that is likely already the case?

I'm sure there are more stones to overturn to raise more money. I'm sure there are things Pollard doesn't do well, and maybe there are some great untapped ideas that could break the floodgates open. So far most of what I have ever heard on people that want Pollard to get "more creative" or "get with the times" are just at best some marginal changes but are mostly different ways of robbing Peter to pay Paul, asking the same people in the fanbase for more money through different vehicles.

Maybe we do need a new AD that has some totally radical ideas. Otherwise, unless you can change ISU's education programs to ones that produce more billionaires, or pick ISU up and move it to a state that doesn't have a dog **** economy and a state government that seems hellbent on running ISU into the ground, the options that have elevated programs in the current era are off the table.

The teams are performing great. How can we make sure that continues? Doesn't that make our coaches more attractive elsewhere? If there are things we can do to retain them - and I don't know what all those things are - shouldn't we try? Or do we just assume all is well, nothing to see here? Do you ever ask questions about things or just plod cluelessly forward in life? Must be nice and easy. Stress free I guess. Jesus dude.
"I can't tell you what JP is doing wrong but I'm sure it's something" is exactly why threads like this get locked over and over.

i think JP needs to be taking a reduced salary. things are tough, its time for the AD staff to also start spending less..... literally no reason for JP to be hobbnobbing with bowl folks. spending hard earned tax money and or fan donations. thats crap.
He has and so has the rest of the AD, it started during Covid and has happened again since. They’ve cancelled Hilton renovations and the wrestling facility, etc.. Bowls pay to travel to visit schools, that’s part of the criticism of them.

What gets me is the belief held by so many that Pollard has done this amazing job and we would be totally screwed without him. He has a so-so hit rate on coaching hires. Facilities and fan support have improved during his time, but the amount of money pumped into college sports has also increased exponentially.

In the current environment we DON'T. We are currently using our savings to fund the Revenue Sharing. So what happens when that savings runs out in a few years and we can't fund our Revenue Sharing?

Agree... But what are we doing to find more money? Some of the easy solutions to getting more money (alcohol sales) get pushed aside.

Sometimes you have to look at new ways to generate income, and we don't seem to want to change how we do it.

I thought NIL was out of the school's control specifically to avoid classifying the players as employees. If that's true, why would JP be involved at all?

So you want the AD to add staff to help athletes find NIL opportunities or do you want current AD staff to do extra work on top of their current duties?

That's a licensing thing and way beyond Pollard's authority
