Where did I tear him down? I want him to explain his NIL methods and uses publicly. We got a speech with no questions. That isn't enough and he's a state employee, not above reproach. Never said I wanted to be AD, but I'm sure there are lots of people in line. We just lost a program-building coach. We don't want to lose another. We're not "poor little Iowa State". We have the resources to compete. We've done it. We need to be smarter than the big SEC schools but we've shown we can do it. He's not the only person on earth who can lead our athletic department.

Lol! This is the dumbest line of all. All of our major programs are in the best shape they have ever been in decades in one of the most difficult environments we've ever seen for a school like ISU. Obviously football is going through a transition and its tough losing a bunch of players but I guess I will wait for the actual results on the field for a season or two before I start calling for Pollard to be fired like was happening in the post that was closed down.

Not a troll. Pollard has done good things, no doubt. He has also been passed by with his feet in cement by the modern world of college athletics. It is OK to discuss what this has done to our major programs. It is also OK to wonder why we're using NIL funds for non-revenue generating sports at the expense of football and basketball; why no one can question his supreme control; why the fans better believe everything he says; why outgoing coaches throw him a bone and most assume that means they loved working with him (just like some politicians); and why his most recent coaching search was done to "preserve continuity" and obviously did nothing of the sort; and why our student-athletes don't trust a word he says. It is OK to question all of these things while recognizing he has done good for ISU.

People say "I don't like Pollard's handling of NIL" and then immediately go on to demonstrate they don't understand how it all works. It's just rage posting. I can understand why threads like that keep getting locked.

To be fair, most people don't understand exactly how it works. But even those that know best have questioned how it's being handled, and this is where I draw my conclusions from. I'm not saying I know what's best, or that we should handle it another way. It does seem that the way we are handling it is not how most others schools are, and we are adapting slower to this new era.

What's more, what end does it serve to let this forum be used as a sounding board for those who think they know better and who want to publicly humiliate the guy?

I'd like to think that I could do a good job as an AD at a major university. I'd like to think that, but it's a hard fact that, even on a good day, I could not come close. And I certainly don't think it's my right to trash such a figure with rude remarks that I mistakenly take for wit or expert assessment.

Do I think folks should slather praise on him?

No.

Do I think that it's best to show some class even when we disagree or are disappointed?

Yes.

Thank you for the 30MM per year that the AD budget is short annually now. It was nice for you to step up. I’m assuming you did since you said we have the funds to compete

No, most people counter those that just say there is a problem but never offer what their solution is. What would you do in JP shoes differently? When you offer a better solution that he has done, then we can say he’s way off. Right now we have a 30MM budget hole and the way other schools are handling it are to have the state pick it up. Iowa has not shown they will do that. Do you have a solution to bridge the 30MM dollars?

Pollard and Yormak are the right people for their respective positions. None of us have the information necessary to evaluate how to deal with the earthquake currently in college sports. In ISU's case, we are fortunate in that we have an experienced leader in place who has dealt with what we thought were seismic events in the past (conference realignment specifically). In the Big 12's case, an individual with experience dealing with media which is the gorilla in the room. We all have suggestions that are relevant but I am glad we have an experienced leader in place in Ames who has seen the edge of the cliff before and came out ahead. I would add that I keep hearing the name Saban thrown around as a possible commissioner of some entity. OMG!
