I'm going to second Lawrence of Arabia. See it on the largest screen possible and turn the volume up.I can’t really get into a lot of movies from the 50s but these are possibly my favorite 60s movies of which I do like many. (80s child myself)
Lawrence of Arabia (color)
Spartacus (color)
A Hard Day’s Night (b&w)
La Dolce Vita (b&w)
Not sure I’d love A Hard Day’s Night if I wasn’t a Beatles fan but since I am I think it’s so fun.
Bridge on River Kwai
Once upon a time in the West

I think Doctor Zhivago has to be in the conversation as well.
Yeah, I first saw Citizen Kane in a theater in the '80s. I am really glad I first saw it that way.About 15 years ago I saw Lawrence of Arabia at the Music Box Theater in Chicago, was one of the coolest movie experiences ever because of just the sound/music in the massive theater, the screen was good but not great. I think I like going to see stuff like that more than new movies even.
Spoilers! The Third Man. Orson Welles stepping out of the shadows with that grin is an incredible shot.
North by northwest?
