Great old movies that stand the test of time

I can’t really get into a lot of movies from the 50s but these are possibly my favorite 60s movies of which I do like many. (80s child myself)

Lawrence of Arabia (color)
Spartacus (color)
A Hard Day’s Night (b&w)
La Dolce Vita (b&w)

Not sure I’d love A Hard Day’s Night if I wasn’t a Beatles fan but since I am I think it’s so fun.
I'm going to second Lawrence of Arabia. See it on the largest screen possible and turn the volume up.

I think Doctor Zhivago has to be in the conversation as well.

It's got its hokie-ness with the songs and cuts through a lot among other things but I saw The Sound of Music recently and it's at least a really well shot movie

About 15 years ago I saw Lawrence of Arabia at the Music Box Theater in Chicago, was one of the coolest movie experiences ever because of just the sound/music in the massive theater, the screen was good but not great. I think I like going to see stuff like that more than new movies even.

Yeah, I first saw Citizen Kane in a theater in the '80s. I am really glad I first saw it that way.

Citizen Kane should be on the list for the cinematography alone. There were some groundbreaking things done in that film that we take for granted now.

I like pretty much anything by Frank Capra and Hitchcock, but if I’m being honest I don’t like old movies much.

I’m not a classic movie guy at all but I liked 12 Angry Men back when I watched it in HS. My son also watched it in HS this year and he said it was surprisingly good. That was a bit surprising. While his favorite movie is Interstellar, he also loves things like Napoleon Dynamite, so take it for what it is worth.

Also I really think Metropolis is pretty cool.
