Michigan hires Wittingham

They are also both alumni at the schools which means a lot. They have built in ties to the programs that run a lot deeper than many coaches.
And BYU can also match any school in the country in $$$'s. Many people don't realize that because of their recent G5 status before moving up to P4/5

That's how they kept Sitake around and why they landed AJ Dybantsa. ASU also is not exactly poor either.

I’m sure that played a role as well.

Also Utah could have easily kept Whittingham. Reading what their fans are saying on Twitter, I think they just didn’t want to run the risk that their coach-in-waiting eventually got tired of waiting around and would bail and take a job somewhere else. Sort of like when the Colts moved on from Peyton Manning because they wanted to go all-in on Andrew Luck.

Really I think what this hiring cycle showed is that some schools can manage things terribly and seemingly screw everything up and still fall into success like what PSU and Michigan just did with Campbell and Wittingam.

If most programs made that many missteps it would set them back a decade.
Money covers up a whole lot of self inflicted boo-boos...

ASU is broke as all hell. They "eliminated" $300m of AD debt last year to make it University debt. It's still debt....I'm just guessing some other funding sources can supplement it.

ASU is kinda poor to poor. They just had to restructure 300mil of athletic debt and don’t really have a strong donor base

But yeah BYU can keep who they want no issue at all, they just have to want it. And with the shifting of Mormon images they 100% do want it

Beat me to it by a second. Also makes sense for them to try to keep the football program/athletics intact. You’re not going to ASU for the academics that’s for sure. Coeds are another story

This kinda reminds me of a wrestling coach situation back in the day. The head coach wasn’t ready to retire, so Gable heads to Iowa, and we know how that went.

Dillingham makes more than 8 MM per with his new contract after incentives. If that's broke as hell, sign me up.

Many former PAC schools were facing serious financial problems due to the awful PAC media deal. UCLA was/is in the same boat as ASU per them leaving the PAC. And like you said above, other funding sources is key here.

ASU's financial issues are like what UCLA was/is dealing with. And the common denominator in that is their awful media deal as PAC 12 members. Years of making far less that the other power conferences put those schools behind the 8 ball big time. But IMO both ASU and UCLA are pretty resource rich and should thrive in their respective leagues, barring bad coaching hires.

So by suck are you thinking sub .500?
I'm hoping for .500 or maybe a game above.
No reasoning behind this just hope.
I would guess sub .500 with the whole roster turning over. New players, new system. I don't have high expectations for year 1. Year 2 either of I'm honest. Just hoping that we continue to be competitive in the conference going forward and don't return to being everyone's homecoming opponent.

I used "Cyclone jock strap" and "hopeful" very intentionally.

Im curious in what way is ASU resource rich?

The Pac12 media deal wasn’t that different from the ACC and big12 to get 300mil in the hole. UCLA still isn’t in a good AD position either even with all the extra money they are getting. ASU isn’t getting that bump.

I'll root for this guy to **** hammer Iowa from here on out. Not sure I'll root for Campbell at all...at least in the short term future.
Same. Problem is, with the unbalanced B10 schedule, they only play each other every five years. But they do play in Ann Arbor next year.

Well both schools knew the money they were getting. So they screwed themselves.

Nice hire for them. Runs a similar system. Seems like a guy who can right the ship and steady things out free from all the drama and noise.
