ESPN Article

“quotes from staffers” basically implying they were shocked/upset he turned down the lions job and then again wondering why “they” hadn’t been contacted by Penn State during the season.

I had suspicions, based off of nothing but internal gut feelings, Campbell's 10 yr tenure, and maybe that 'infamous' Bells of ISU photo from Jacqueline Cordova that he may have been ready to move on.

Somewhere a few years back I read or skimmed a brief article that stated 7 years is the max any coach should rightfully stay at one school, I know this factored into my suspicions too.

I really hope some of this stuff didn’t actually happen or was taken out of context. If it wasn’t it sure seems like Campbell was just waiting for the right out the whole time.
I didn’t read it that way, it reads like we’ve heard or suspected.

TL,DR.

Seriously that article just meanders on.

What did it say in regards to CMC wanting out for a long time?
All in all, this reads like a puff piece to make it sound like the Penn State coaching search wasn't a complete disaster when it was. They fell ass backwards into a good hire.

Quotes from staffers makes it sounds as if Campbell and co. were waiting for any big job to come along and he would take it. This would directly contradict what has been reported by CW that the staff was shocked he took the Penn State offer.

It also contradicts itself in that way also. He is waiting for any big time Job. Ummm You want the Detroit Lions job in the NFL? No. So clearly the article is stating the Iowa State job is bigger than the Detroit Lions> Great to know

Also seemed to be lots of fluffing of Penn State as a football program.

For one the history of what they knowingly allowed to happen there should be mentioned in the first 2-3 paragraphs of any article about them, and then football wise they've been good but not some dominant force over the past 30 years with exception to a handful of seasons/teams.

The same staffers "that really wanted Mouser to get the head coaching job so they could stay in Ames"?

10 years is forever in today’s environment. Heck, that’s only 2.5 “full recruiting cycles” of guys spending 4 years in the program.

Many teams want “win now” but it takes time for a guy to get his dudes in there and building the culture. Guess that’s different with the portal now.

There's a lot of people on a football coaching staff. Some of them maybe more antsy to move on to a bigger job than others.

And this doesn't really make it seem like he was waiting for any opportunity, but he had a short list of right ones and this was one of them.

Pretty uninteresting article overall, although I'm curious who the industry source that bad mouthed him would be.

It’s much ado about nothing, actually.

Franklin’s agent I’m betting.

Feature story on SportsCenter, sure. Netflix documentary is a stretch.

This is nothing but a Pedo State puff piece to make the AD seem like he was playing 4 dimensional chess while the rest of us were trying to figure out checkers. Any article that doesn’t mention their history of covering up for Sandusky because winning was more important than protecting children isn’t a fully written article.

First, I'd like to know who ("industry insider") was bad mouthing Matt in regard to the portal.

Next, this notion that it is nearly impossible to win at ISU now is complete nonsense. ISU has the second largest stadium in the Big 12. ISU is the most watched team in the Big 12.
